Vista Throttle Lock Question Empty Vista Throttle Lock Question

Post  GGiant Fri 13 Sep 2013, 12:57 pm

Continuing on from the Kaoko thread:

The Kaoko has been sitting idly on my Bandit as a bar end weight and it's time it came off. I bought it because it is neat and unobtrusive, but it's not for me, so out it goes.

I have seen the Vista which is quite the opposite in looks to the Kaoko. It looks  quaint and retro, like its from the steam age, but I have tried it on my mate's ST 1300 and it works a treat. Whoever designed it and put it on the market was a brave man, but it does work.

So I will give it ago but I need to find if it will fit my Bandit with the Oxford hot grips.

The Oxford hot grips have a thickish rubber part at the left end of the rubber grip where the power lead exits. This makes the distance there to the left (inboard) face of the ....um....plastic bit/lump that holds the red 'kill switch' about 64mm. (as clear as...!)

So what I have to find out is if the Vista will 'span' the above 64mm of obstacles from left face of the kill switch 'lump' and clear the right face of the left end of the Oxford grip and reach the normal round grip (34mm).

Holy cow confused - who could understand that! Hopefully some bandits will,  and maybe assist.

Cheers, GG

I take it that you are talking about the right switch block that the kill switch is on?  Shocked

That's it, yes the 'switch block'.

The Vista has a ring you tighten around the bare handle bar just to the left of the switch block and a small 'beam' from the ring spans over to the throttle grip. Mine is a bit wider because of the extra width in the rubber collar around the left end of the throttle grip. So I don't know if the 64mm total width of switch block + rubber collar is too wide.

Tks

The vista only just fits with the original throttle grip on mine . You may be able to fit a small spacer & maybe a  longer screw to the throttle end of the vista arm , just be aware , the longer the arm , the more the flex ,making it work less efficiently at slower speeds . Stay away from the cheap version of this type of lock , the flex in those locks arm is excessive so when you let go of the throttle , your speed drops .

Thanks for that Paul. I was wondering if the arm might be extendable and yep I can see the flex issue you raise - thanks.

Thanks MM: This type is my 'fall back" type of device.

I liked the positive nature of the Vista and that it is a bit more difficult for a villain to pinch.

Sure thing Jim. It is very nicely made and I assume works well for some folk, but not me.

I mounted it a few months ago and it has just been a passenger on my handlebar.

Rather than bore other bandits on the forum I will email you directly.
