Hello Riders,

I have a question regarding the startup indications on Suzuki Bandit 1250s.
when the ignition is turned on, i can see "CSF" on the speedometer and message goes off.

Just wondering what it means, if you guys can help.

Thank you for the reply, what does GSF means on a bandit 1250s ?

Part of the error message codes. GSF stands for General System Fault. What it means is that you need to take it back to the dealer and explain to them that it has a General System Fault and ask that they reset the ECM to the default values with the Suzuki Diagnostic tool.

They will charge you about $100 for this. Most dealers will try to tell you that there is nothing wrong with the bike and that it's absolutely a normal part of the display, but that's just them trying to avoid corporate responsibility for a known fault. Once they have connected it to the diagnostics and try to tell you that there's nothing wrong with it, that's the clue to know that they are just trying to avoid responsibility. We know their sort.

The General System Fault may mean that you have to park the Bandit up for a while and ride a Honda or something else that won't show this on the display. Only then will you be truly safe. After a while you may find that other Bandit owners start to tease you, but persevere, as we know their sort too.

A known fix is to remove the instrument cluster and carefully remove the rubber boot from the cable and then the plug connecting the instruments to the harness. It is guaranteed that you won't see the General System Fault error code then, although you may have to resort to trailing a piece of string with corks on it to know your speed. If the last cork is on the ground, you have stopped. If it's horizontal, you have not stopped or it's windy. Your Suzuki dealer will know.

I am sure you will be able to solve this and the contributors here I am sure will chime in!

lol!

I've just spent an hour trying to find some corks! Do you people know how hard it is to find corks nowadays because of all the wine bottles being screwcaps? Kewwig is there a safe and effective alternative to cork? Also I removed my rubber boots as instructed, with very little or no change in velocity, now I'm a bit worried I might have done the wrong thing.

Easily fixed. Instead of corks, use large blowflies. Make sure they are dead first though, or your speed system will rise up and will lead to inaccuracy. A speedohealer tied to the end of the line will fix that and the best thing is that you will have a weather station that is also a light sensor. Here in Wellington, if the sensor is wet, it is raining, if dry, it is about to rain, if visible it is daytime, if not, it's nighttime (or raining).

If you can't find the rubber boots, don't worry. Sidecutters. The dealers will say no, but we know better. The speedos lie.

Thankyou Kewwig for your additional informative solutions to an ever increasing problem in the world of modern motorcycling. It's quite clear that the members of this forum are blessed with information not readily available to a wider audience and like me, should be greatful for it. However, I still may have to contact my local Suzuki dealer as I don't have Speedos, and if I did, I think unfortunately they wouldn't lie.
