Mackay - I escaped
After living in Mackay for 15 years, we sold the house and moved to Hervey Bay (about 10 hours south for any Mexicans reading this!).
Real estate in Hervey Bay is amazing at present. For houses within our price range we could choose from several hundred for sale and costs around 60-80% of a similar house in Mackay.
Hervey Bay is also known as Gods Waiting Room with a high percentage of "wrinklies" however, there are very few around the streets and shopping centres so I assume they stay within the retirement villages.
I also consider the general manners on the roads around here are considerably better than Mackay and a heavy downpour is 10mm not 100mm as we were accustomed to.
My bike is still in Mackay at a mates place. I will catch the tilt train up there and ride back in the next couple of weeks.

Re: Mackay - I escaped
On the contrary Gus.
Life in Mackay is full of road rage. I was seriously considering selling the Bandit if I stayed there.
I also think the region is slowing down with a number of mines I have worked in now being shut down or "moth balled".
Real estate values are also going down and I predict Mackay will become a little less prosperous in the future.
The mines are also increasing their "fly in - fly out" workers which adds to this decline.
Other than that, it is still a nice part of the world.
I think it is also time to buy a jet ski

Nothing wrong with zombies
Thanks for the invite. We've just bought a house so once we settle in (and I buy my jet ski!) we could pay you a visit.
Do I need a banjo, corn cob pipe and straw hat to blend in?

nice one barry_mcki
Love Kenilworth. Try the nacho entree at the local with a steak and then down to the cheese factory for some top ice cream. :D Then ride out of town a bit towards the east till you get to the twisties and stop and listen to the bell birds. Nice place.
