First topic message reminder :

What is everyone using to undo the rear axle nut?
Just the standard tool that came with the bike??

I looked at Bunnings, SuperCheap and Autobarn, none of them seen to have a Wrench or socket that is 36mm

Remove the nut and squirt some spray lube on the thread (replace the nut!)
Put the factory supplied spanner on the rear axle nut with the handle horizontal
Measure out 125mm from the centre of the rear axle nut and stand on the spanner at this point
Reposition the spanner as many times as necessary to achieve a situation where the nut ceases to rotate
I understand this has achieved the 100nm of torque required.
In Queensland we always do this either barefoot or wearing thongs to cause the greatest amount of injury to your foot and lower leg

When you are 108kg you can pretty well guarantee that the nut will be tight(probably overtight) when you use your foot on the spanner.

At 108Kg I would position myself only 100mm from the axle nut to achieve correct torque.
BTW this technique ensures you will be able to remove the axle nut on the side of the road if you need to.
Although there is nothing wrong with using this technique, I generally use a torque wrench for most other bolts especially those in alloy.
If you are looking at buying a torque wrench mine is a Kincrome 3/8 ratchet drive which covers the full torque range of the Bandit and costs less than $100

I have a 36mm black socket (3/8 drive) if anyone wants one, although the postage would cost more than its worth. Mad
its a half inch drive

I must have loaned out my 36mm 3/4 drive socket and solid drive bar, can't find it. Very useful for VW Beetle flywheel nuts and rear axle nuts, both of which have a specified torque of 250ftlbs. The technique for undoing an axle nut on an old beetle involves the above tool with a length of pipe on the end, someone heavy bouncing on the end and a whack with a 4x2.

Can't understand why the 1250 has a 36mm nut when 24mm works for the 1200 and the 'strom which have the same specified torque.
