Dark Green\Blue stuff coming out Empty Dark GreenBlue stuff coming out

Post  Tsim Fri 18 Jan 2013, 8:46 pm

Rode home today in Sydney's horrible heat.
Stopped about an hour into the journey.
Just as I was about get back on the bike, notices the overflow pipes have spewed about 1/2 a cup of Really Dark Green/Blue liquid. (Darker than the coolant that I am used to)
Temp light didn't come on, got her home and put her in the garage. Will check the fluid levels in the morning (cause it is too frigin hot and beer is awaiting me)

My guess is that this is excess coolant bubbling out due to the heat.... Any thoughts? (Brand new bike, had 1,000km service done at Suzuki dealer last week)

Really common for coolant overflow to occur. Check the rubber plug is properly seated in the header tank, that your coolant level is OK and don't worry too much about it unless you lose a lot. It's a poor design

Could be a stuffed radiator cap, even from new.

Might also have been too full of coolant in the first place.

If it keeps doing it take it back, it should be able to cope with a 45ยบ day.

I've noticed on past occasions that if you top up the reservoir bottle to the top mark, you will get over flow on hot days. Mine is currently just below the lower level mark and hasn't moved for a year. Changing the coolant today.

Yep, the reservoir bottle should only be filled to the low mark when the bike is cold. I'd say it was overfilled from new and that was just excess overflow given the stupid hot temps we've been having.

Thought I was going to spew out multi coloured liquids from each exit point yesterday in the heat too! lol!
