Anyone lived in Port Augusta before?

Potentially moving there from Brisbane in a few weeks for a new job.

Am excited and nervous at the same time....
Would love to hear personal experiences of the place, good places to eat, hang out, roads to ride, etc?

Horrick's Pass up to Wilmington to the east is a great road.

It used to have a bad reputation (deservedly so) but the place has cleaned up it's act the last 10 - 15 years or so, still has some issues but most places do, I stay there regularly for work and don't mind it but not sure if I'd live there.
It is the gateway to my favourite part of SA, the Eyre Peninsula, especially Pt Lincoln to Ceduna, very picturesque area.

Well originally it was going to be Coober Pedy, but my wife felt that was too far remote for her. Pity cause I would have loved it.

Gonna be weird living in a different state, although with the way Qld is at the moment I'm looking forward to leaving for a break....

Most people that consider moving to Coober Pedy have work there or in the near by mines, Prominant Hill is the biggest around there, thought maybe that's why you were moving to Pt Augusta

No mining work for me.

I have a social work degree and am looking for work in Child Protection. The Neumann government here isn't hiring cause they like to tell us we have no money (not sure how we don't) so I'm looking interstate for a new adventure. SA look the goods at the moment, Coober Pedy and Port Augusta are the likely areas.

I've had several extended stays in Pt Augusta in my travels. Roger at Poinsetia Motel is a great guy.
