Safety levy
I read in motorcycle trader that the SA
govt is considering a safety levy on motorcyclists . below is my
response to .........minister.rankine@dfc.sa.gov.au
any comments to the above minister is most welcome
As a motorcyclist of over 40 years it is with disdain that I
have read the government are proposing a safety levy for motorcyclists .This
must surely be just another way of taxing to raise more for govt. coffers.
For example , a trip up Willunga hill on the Victor Harbor
road to see wire rope barriers ( which are extremely dangerous to motorcyclists
) being installed for km after km must surely be an indication of the lack of
safety concern of motorcyclists by the powers that be .
Driver / rider education along with a safe & well
maintained environment would be more appropriate , but I fear the opposite will
happen & unrealistic " safety measures " will be put in place to band-aid
fix the problems that exist & any monies raised will just end up as part of
general revenue & squandered on other white elephant projects instead
Today they requested my home address for correspondence which has now been supplied ...............Paul__________________

Re: Safety levy
Yep filled the form out earlier; but was prompted to respond about the levy this time after I saw miles of wire ropes being put up as we speak on the Victor road & also fear any money raised will go the way of the desal plant et all of late; instead of where it could really do some good ............be interesting to see what they post out to me

Re: Safety levy
Sounds like another case of get as much money out of riders before they crash or cark it. Is there a safety levy on horse riding? road or mountain bike riding? All of these recreational sports/hobbies etc are just as dangerous as riding a motorcycle. Looks like the nanny states influence is creeping across borders.
