Mechanics ??
Took Rosie over to a large Suzuki dealership last week for a carby balance and TPS adjustment. They did it while I waited. I saw her being taken for a road test, then when she returned I waited in the reception area for the mechanic to ask him of his findings. He said " the carbs were a bit out, all good now". I asked about the TPS readings. His reply, " They are not to be played with". To which I asked, " Then why are they adjustable" ? You could have heard a pin drop. My question was brushed aside, I paid the bill and left. Not 100% happy. Rosie did feel like she was running better though. So this TPS thing bugged me. I read up all that I could find on the net and today I got my new Multi Meter. Look Out ! The test is pretty simple to do. Even by yourself. By my calculations ( and I repeated them several times to be sure ), the tps was out by nearly .25% in the fully open position. Adjusting it was a sinch, but I still moved the tps a fraction to get it spot on. Now I don't consider myself to be any kind of mechanic by any means. But how come I can come home and do a simple little job that I had gone to great lengths to get a qualified mechanic to do, who wouldn't. In conclusion. After a short ride. No noticable difference. Still pulls like a fifteen year old schoolboy. But at least I know that the tps is where it is supposed to be. The End.

Re: Mechanics ??
You adjusted it by 1 quarter of 1 percent and you cant tell any difference?
Good on you for asking the question and for having a go yourself but it was SFA of an adjustment.
I should check mine but I think I need a balance more than anything else. Not happy with the fluctuating idle at the moment.
I reckon if you chuck your leg over a 1250 it will be like dating your sister coming from an 06 mate

Firstly. What is dateing your sister like ? You Haven't seen my sister.
Second. The reading was 5.3 closed. Which makes the open reading 4.028. 76% of closed. So we are talking small numbers, tiny adjustments.

It's probably how he's been trained. With a lot of things on cars and bikes now its set at factory and mechanics are taught that it is not necessary to touch them.

Re: Mechanics ??
I reckon the tps on the 2nd gen Bandits would just be for ignition timing. I can't see any other reason for it on a carbied bike.

Re: Mechanics ??
next time you want to synch/balance the carb's, sing out here. I have the Carbtune Pro unit for synching carb's (also good for synching throttle bodies on EFI). synching carb's is not that hard, I just did my Bandit last weekend, took all of an hour or so.

Re: Mechanics ??
Having seen Re-Cycled Gen1 and seen his TPS I can say it is fitted. We even compared their postion last Sunday between mine and his.

Interestingly when I swapped the engine I had to swap the neutral switch, the Gen1 only has a contact for neutral but Gen2 has contacts for the first 2 gears from memory so there may be some ignition retard going on there too, mines a '96 the first year so it looks like they always had one.
Well... I did offer, so here it is

Sounds interesting, what does a Gen1 fork brace look like?

Re: Mechanics ??
what it does is goes between the fofks above the guard, and stiftens the forks to stop flex in the forks, theory anyway
did i notice it on mine..well..i did it the same time i upgraded the forks eg;spings valves etc:
it does handle better, but can i put it all down to the brace..i can`t say, but you pay for post..its yours.
got nothing to loose really!!
its billet ally, nice bit of kit!! "Super Brace"

Yes, I answered above, you made me double post
Just to clear things up, some extracts from the Haynes Manual.
1996 model says TPS was one of the changes from GSX1100
No suggestion here of a change in capacity, although maybe in the US?
Thanks I'd love to try it, will PM you with details soon.
Re: Mechanics ??
my bad,it wasn`t from manual,it was from bandit alley UK,and there were some Sepo`s on there saying their gen 1`s didn`t have it,so maybe a Yank thing!!
