Useable fuel capacity 2010 Bandit 1250?
Hi all,
Has anyone done a 'run dry' test i.e. run the bike till it konks out? How many of the 19 litres in the tank can you use?
Thanks.

Sorry but thats a bit like how long is a piece of string, different riding styles, terrain, road conditions, i get like 270 to 320 to a tank whilst i have never let it run out i wouldnt like to go much further past a fuel station once every thing is flashing

Thanks Jim,
I understand riding styles are different but I want to know how many litres are usable, not how far I can go. I can work out the km based on how I'm riding but can I use all 19 litres or does the pickup leave 2, 3 or 4 litres left unused in the tank?
300km-ish is a fair start though, thanks.
Cheers.

Gus got over 400.
Ask him how much he put back in the tank.
I would imagine there would be no more than a few mls left if you sucked it dry.
I look for fuel around the 250 - 280 mark and cant seem to cram more than 12 - 14 lt in.
How much more than 300km do you need before taking a break?

Gus got over 400km? I would be starting to sweat. Maybe it's a good pickup in the tank.
I know it sounds a bit anal but it would be nice to know what's available in case I ever need to use it. I may just throw a couple of litres on the rack and go for a ride until it stops.

Thats what Gus did.
In your case just siphon the tank almost dry and see if she runs with 500ml left.

I've got a 2010 as well, and the most I've been able to get in is 17 litres. Makes me think I had another 30 k's or so left.

I wouldn't run it dry. As others have found the fuel pump filter gets blocked very easily. Having said that I've pushed mine over 300kms before modifications. These days 250ish is fill up time and less for spirited riding

That's impressive Narco, 18.7L.
I feel better now believing the gauge when it starts flashing.

Travelling to WSBK at Phillip Island this year, I put 18.3 litres in having done close to 360kms. I was pretty nervous and expected to be walking into Bright!

worked out on mine when the two warnings go off , the amount required to fill it up was pretty correct , but as Reddog said , running it dry isn't ideal & you can also get to suck more shit into the system than it's worth . It's not that hard to stop & top up on a trip if you have any doubts about making the next stop . My 2c worth

Re: Useable fuel capacity 2010 Bandit 1250?
My 2009 1250 has provided the following economies
All figures based on 18.7 litres (but I'm not game to push it that far)
Best economy 4.3 l/100 @ 18.7litres gives a range of 435Kms - achieved on an outback trip
Average economy 5.6 l/100 @ 18.7litres gives a range of 333Kms - average economy since new
Worst economy 6.3 l/100 @ 18.7litres gives a range of 287Kms - around town in traffic
My longest run before fueling is 318Kms. I have no intention of pushing the bike - ever

My worst economy was a full tank gone in just over 100kms.
I was at a track day though, the tyres looked pretty secondhand afterwards as well

It was at the Collie motorplex, 8 turns 1.6Km at pretty much 75% WOT.
Certainly hard work punting a heavy Bandit around, but jack up links on the rear help the big girl turn in

Re: Useable fuel capacity 2010 Bandit 1250?
I've got between 410 and 420km on a tank a few times - fill up and taking up to around 18.5 lts... However recently had the thing 'tuned' after some problems - also got a new fuel pump and I couldn't get more than around 320 - 340km out of the tank.. since then been back to a different mechanic who has hopefully done a better job at tuning it (told me it was running rich) but since then not had a full tank through it. Planning on a trip up to Macksville next week so that will be a good test for the economy..

that still spins me out that it got that bad!!
the particular session i was on to get 200/tank was through twisties, and the high speed run on the same journey invovled me,and two R1`s,and we averaged 200km/h for 35min,and covered about 115km on the high speed part of that run..so that was running at high noise for a long time.

Mate, 410 -- 420 sounds unnatural. Are you sure it wasn't running a bit lean? I can understand 360 - 380 running around regular road speeds (not something I seem not very good at ).

Re: Useable fuel capacity 2010 Bandit 1250?
Hi Ewok... yeah it could have been lean - we'll never know now. I left it as 'standard' and hadn't fiddled with the tune at all until the episode a couple of months back when I adjusted the TPS and throttle body balance - to my chagrin.
Since then and since 2 weeks ago when another mechanic had a go at it (and I think fixed it) I really haven't been on a long ride to check it out... I was getting those k's out of it on our ride down to Narooma back in April. Was going ok then I think; never noticed something that I could have confused with being 'lean'..

I can assure you keeping the throttle pinned, hard braking and then pinning it again will use bulk fuel. The bike was coming into the pits with the fan going flat out, so I was thrashing it. I was getting wheelspin through turn 2 and the rear was chirping and dancing into turn 4 and 6 on the down shifts, I had to ride the clutch to use it a bit like a slipper to stop the bike getting total rear lock up. I've ran off turn 6 previously getting a little over anxious on the down shifts on a previous track day.
I was managing to keep up with an Aprillia 1000 naked and a few R6's, so I was pretty happy with that effort. The Bridgestone 023 rear was wearing pretty well, I left the tyres with close to standard road pressure and they got up to temp in about 2 laps.
By the end of the day my legs were killing me as normal riding you hardly get off the bike. Just think about doing 300+ squats

Re: Useable fuel capacity 2010 Bandit 1250?
such big numbers.
I have kind of worked backwards - fill tank, measure trip. work out how many k's per litre.
I would average around 17k's/litre - only once been beyond 300k's on a tank and managed to put 18L in tank afterwards. About 320k's is about my max. usually I work on 300 as a safe refuelling.
Narco - thanks for the heads up. that the first warning flashes at 1/3 is good. My book says 6L for first warning and I hadnt really put it together in my head.
