Small screen for naked .
The last time i went to Tasi i fitted this screen . Hated it ,noisy ,deflect cold air onto my hands and was too big to take off and pack on a hot day .
One thing it did do was deflect rain . Still got wet ,but it took longer .
There is talk of another trip ( 4 weeks ) in march .I started to think i needed a small screen so when it rained i dont end up with a swimming pool
in the crotch area .I had to come up with a better screen to deflect rain but able to be packed away easily on a nice day .Looks unimportant .
I bought a $4 nylon cutting board as a screen and made some brackets .Looked a bit like this .You may laugh ,i have, but it just my work if i can fine
tune it .At $4 i can always throw it .
I made a smaller one (than above ) and the air flow hit me 100mm below neck it worked well but i melted it on a heater trying to dry the paint .
Remember i can only work on this a night outside .
Bought another $4 board but decided to make it bigger (above ) test ride .Terrible ,air stream hits me just below helmet .So noisy ,proves bigger isnt
always better .Planed the height down to the smaller original size .
Fitted it with wing -nuts so i can fit and remove without any tools .Its flat so it packs away .I can also lift the screen 80mm if weather really goes bad .
Its painted black so while in Tasi i can draw a map of Tasi on it (silver texta ) and get people to autograph it ,put on phone numbers ,messages ,well
anything anyone wants to .
When at home it will go on the wall as a memento of the trip ,and replaced with a $4 replacement .
Phillip Island trip will have the race track drawn on it .Turn 6 -Stood here ,groped a grid girl .Got into trouble .
Yet to test ride the new one .If it works i'll remake a pretty one .

You can not only catch lunch with that but dice and cut them up too.
Why not make a screen out of wire mesh?

I don't know , but maybe rounded off at the top & carbon it or something ...................... to me it still just looks too much like a chopping board

I'd say that was cutting edge technology Gus! Maybe cut a couple of eye holes in it so you can crounch down behind it and still see for those high speed runs!

Re: Small screen for naked .
alright..hear me out,
first of all,you do a bit of fiberglasing ,yes?
and you like to go away and tour, but want a removeable screen..?
how about incorporating a small removeable screen that is semi shaped like the front top of your fuel tank,(of appropriate size)so when removed,it is a perfect contour match of your tank, then becomes a storeage spot with clip points somewhere on the frame either side of tank?

The clip on and off idea works well , no tools required is a good idea . If i can get the height right it will be time to get the shape more pleasing .
I did carbon it but wasnt happy with it . Having duel lights makes it awkward because they are so low it makes the screen look too big .I do like the
look of the "Ross Screen " but of cause it would not fit my duel lights .

Gus Gus Gus. What the hell are you smokin' up there in the back waters ? I'm sorry but that just does not look right. Firstly it must be soooooo unaerodynamic that you would be lucky to get up to 100kph. Secondly. Shouldn't it have a number painted on it ? Reminds me of those really old race bikes with a big number on the front. No offence Gus, but not up to your usual standards.

Re: Small screen for naked .
I had a race number on it but everyone kept asking "why that number "
Then there was the idea of a piece of chalk on a string .
Bread
Paper
Apples .
I really dont want a screen ,but think i may need one .

Buy water proof pants so your crotch area stays dry. They pack away in your luggage when you don't need them and you don't have to carry around a chopping board

Re: Small screen for naked .
Ive started on a new idea .The brackets work well (a bit big though ) so i''ll keep that .Now to curve the front bit .

Re: Small screen for naked .
Try something that lets air underneath it to help reduce the vacuum (negative pressure area) on the rider side of screen. Sounds counter intuitive but it's the reason he madstad works so well. If you can achieve this with what you're doing then you'll get the turbulence point to go a bit higher (depending on angle) and maybe get some good results.

Re: Small screen for naked .
I realised Carol had a Givi screen in the shed for winter trips .I covered it in tape and took a fiberglass mold .Its abit big for my liking but i figured
if i made it full size i could always cut it down .This is full size ,i like the lip at the top so i'll test ride before cutting down .
Fitting and removal ,1 allen key and 30 seconds.
Its not as large as it looks here but i'd like 60mm off the top for looks but we will see how it goes .
Just a little cool last time.

That looks a lot better/ maybe a photo from a bit farther back would be good to get the perspective of size to bike

And if you paint the inside with chalkboard paint you can still have the shopping list....
Re: Small screen for naked .
LOL Half expected to see a yellow patch in the snow behind you
As you said , it's not a permanent fixture so as long as it does the job & looks good , you've got to be happy with that
