I think it is because the engine is a stressed member of the frame, if there is damage to the engine it can be assumed the frame will be bent and unsellable for safety reasons

That looks like a total insurance job. I bet the shop that assessed the bike and made it a write off brought it back to fix it up and flog it.
In Perth you are allowed to buy repairable write offs, fix them up and then put them over the pits to be relicensed.

Substantially overpowered for its wheel base. Looks more like hard work than fun in those conditions.Reardo wrote:
This one looks good
A shame it cost $60,00

Would like to know how much it sold for. It is a very time consuming job to put one back on the road. Lots of paperwork.

Insurance companies make the the best $ decision for them .They are not idiots ,you may end up with a cheap bike but the paint wont match it will look shabby and if you sell it buyers will run a mile if then know it was a wright off .Parts ,maybe, but you only want a few ,cheaper to buy the parts.
Plenty of guys who work for the insurance companies ride but none of them wanted it .I wonder why ?

You also have to declare to a buyer, that a bike has been a " repairable write off " , by law. If you dont, and they find out, you will be in big do do's.

I find it strange that in NSW if it's written off then it's off. In VIC you just have to have it inspected ($500). And the nearest inspection point from Wangaratta is Albury NSW. I would just put that sucker back on the road.

But t still gets recorded as a repaired write off and forever its value is halved (or more) ok for a tack bike build thoughKaupy1962 wrote:I find it strange that in NSW if it's written off then it's off. Correct, this was implemented 01/01/2011 if I recall correctly, I think vehicles purchased prior to that date have until later this year to be repaired and re registered
There are now a lot of Statutory Writeoffs in NSW that have minimal damage, although they may not look bad they can now only be used for parts
