New Bike Price Markups
Canberra Motorcycle Centre was haveing a sale up until this weekend (don't know when it started). Had an opportunity to stop by on Sat morning. There were some decent bargins to be had, eg:
ZX-10 (but maybe a 2010 build), new, registered on-road: $14,290 (an ex-demo). How much mark-up is there normally? These things are usually up around $18k - $19k, and that's without the on-road costs. Not that I want one but it just goes to show you should only buy bikes when they're on special or else you'll be done for $1,000s.
Other prices also seemed pretty good on 2nd hand machines. I bought a pair of Dririder aeromesh summer gloves (which I really like) for $60.

If it was an ex-demo bike then it isn't new and can't be sold as new. Also if it was 2010 compliance plate then they probably wanted it out of the shop because (depending on the arrangement with the distributor) it would be costing them money on the 'floor plan'.
You are right though. If you are happy to buy a new bike that is 1 or 2 years old there are definite savings to be had. Becareful with demo bikes though, most have not been treated well and you often only get the 'balance of warranty'.

Kinda like Big screen TVs when you see them come on special. I was looking at a 55 inch LCD the other week for $700. I paid nearly 3000 a few years back for a 42".

Might be wrong , but I think there is a rebate to the dealer if he sells a bike cheap to make a deal

My local dealer told me they get $1 for every cc up to $1000 max if they sell a bike for cost.
