SV650 Track Bike
Hi all, as a bit of inspiration to encourage more people to get out and try a trackday, I thought I'd show off some pics of our track bike. I know it's not exactly Bandit related but it is a Suzuki and as a moderator I can post whatever I want . This is the Suzuki SV650 Cam and I have been running at Eastern Creek over the past twelve months. We picked it up at a relatively low cost and have done some basic modifications to make it more suitable for putting in lots of laps.
Mods to date:
We did a trackday at EC on Monday and because we share the bike it does back to back sessions all day (12 total). I do white session (slow and newbies) and cam is in yellow with the next quickest guys. Had heaps of fun passing Ducati 1198s, Hyabusa's and ZX10s all day through the corners and on the brakes, then getting blown by down the long front straight.
Anyway, if you've never done it before I really recommend you have a go sometime (even on your roadbike). If you can be a bit restrained and ride to your own abilities, there's not a large risk associated with riding on the track. Most crashes are from very quick riders trying to bring down laptimes in the faster groups. If you end up liking it, there's lots of sub $5,000 bikes out there that would make great track projects. It's not the cheapest hobby, but I can think of many that are worse and if you team up with a mate, it's not too bad. Tyres will last a years worth of events so the only real expense is the day itself (unless of course you throw it down the road, hey Cam).
Stolen photo of Cam warming into it on Monday (http://www.jpmphoto.com.au/frame_2.htm).
Mods to date:
- Sticky Dunlop tyres
- Teknik rebuilt front forks
- Yakuga rear shock
- Braided front brake lines
- Removed indicators, mirrors, rear guard

Re: SV650 Track Bike
Sounds & looks like fun. If there was a track within 500km I'd get a tracky for sure.
Would that be the only non naked bike in the Spencer family?

I only used "Camsmum" because everyone knows who he is and I thought I would be removed as soon as he got home from holidays but I'm still here. Now I feel bad .

Steve, I do go to all their track days but only to watch not participate. You have seen me ride, I think I'm a bit slow for the track also it looks a bit scary for me. It's a bit of a nail biter watching Matt & Andrew do their session and as Matt pulls in Cameron jumps on the SV and off he goes and does his laps. They are all going really well.

Re: SV650 Track Bike
My Bandit has seen about 5 track days. Still really enjoy it, but that SV would feel so much easier to turn in.... I'll talk to the wife soon and convinceher I need a GSXR 750 as a track bike
A fella over this way can get a reasonable bike track worthy for around the 6K mark. A mate just brought a '12 Fireblade and reckons comapred to his 07 it's a toy. Goes extremely well though.
