Trike Anyone?
I've always been luke warm to the possability of parking a trike in the garage one day.
Probably VW powered but we have a lot more trans axle options these days so anything is possible.
I've never been in/on one and to be honest I've never had a close look.
On the drive back from Portland yesterday I was following one that pot me off the idea a bit. A lot actually.
Every bump we hit (Princes Hwy - there is a lot of them) the back end jumped sideways.
You could see the suspension work but it looked like a handful to track straight and would have been uncomfortable for the pillion who was sitting much higher than the rider.
I realise you have a choice of hitting bumps and holes with one or other of the wheels on a set up like this but is this bucking bronco type ride typical?
I passed him in Warnambool and it was a nice looking yellow rig and appeared to be V6 powered

Re: Trike Anyone?
I have always said that the only way I would ever consider a trike was if I lost the use of my legs.
I know a few people who have one and they love them. One of the guys I ride with has a CanAM spider which he uses when his wife wants to go with him and he seems pretty happy with it, but he does admit that you have the disadvantages of a car with very few of the advantages.

I would love to take a Can-am spider for a spin, but as for owning one, I don't think so.

Re: Trike Anyone?
BRP, Can Am, do ride days quite regularly. I did one a year ago - started at the St Kilda Sea Baths and went for an hour around Elwood and Port Melbourne. Very different ride and character to a 'normal' bike. Had a big 'shit' moment when I went for a hand full of front brake then remembered that it only has a foot brake. One of the girls, and her husband, at work has since bought a Spyder so I get the occasional use of it (the bike!) and it still seems weird to me. They also have a collection of VFR, K1200S, and several dirt bikes but use the Spyder most.
Think I will stick with 2 wheels for a while.

gotta remember a spyder is just a skidoo with wheels, after dropping the bandit a couple of times, me thinking that it wouldn't be a bad move to training wheels and all

Trikes are a waste of time. They are as big if not bigger than some cars. I fail to see how they meet any Australian standard, who wants an old cut up VW with a bike front end?
When I get that old I'll buy a shop rider

Great idea for a commercial use. ie, weddings, tours, etc. First one I have seen like it.
I have a very good, older friend here on the Island. Vietnam Vet. Unfortunately has a terrible illness. Is frail. Has trouble walking , let alone throwing his leg over his bikes. He had a brand new Suzuki GSR 600. Wrote it off. Has now got a new Triumph with a side car to help him stay upwright. He loves bikes with a passion, and will talk about them with you for hours. He is a small man but with the heart of a lion. A true digger. No one will ever stop him from riding. I dare say it may be the last thing he does. We all would like to see him on a trike/spyder. So the trike does have a place, and maybe one day, one of us may find ourself with only that option,( if our mind still lets us ).

Speaking from experience a Trike can be great fun, I had one and ran it as a business and sold the whole package as it was not viable because I moved to a house where I couldnt store it safely.. They certainly do meet all Australian standards and each year I had to take it over the pits for an inspection as it was a business.. passed every test with flying colours.. The brakes were great-disc front and twin calipers rear.. stopped fantastically. Could have used some more power in mine but it ran more than sufficiantly - Yes they are big so no lane splitting! but I loved it!
I really loved thew wow factor and my passengers felt like celebrities on it, in fact I had some real celebrities on it in my time.
Have a look at the website, the bloke that bought it hasnt changed a thing on it.. all the pictures are me riding it and also many of my family in the galleries. http://www.freespirittours.com.au/index.html
as a footnote, They are a huge amount of fun to ride, handle amazingly, big tho, Leon at Leons motors in Brisbane makes the best and is now making some with Subaru engines, he is all about the power.

I'd like one with a Porsche rear end.

Flash - not much doubt why there was a large number of cars parked up the road on the other side!
