Erratic Idle
Upon returning to the servo from my slow and painful (literally) ride around the hills today I pulled up with the B1250 doing about 1800rpm.
Thought that's odd. Filled up and fired up and it's doing 2000rpm with the fan going. Very unusual but its only a couple of k home do I shoot off.
Pulled into the drive way at 1500rpm steady unless I pblip the throttle and it settles sometimes higher sometimes lower but still with the fan going.
Switched it off and lubed the chain and checked what I could see. Overflow bottle right on F where I expected it to be.
So the bike was parked for maybe 10 mins and started again with idle steady on 1100rpm where it always is. (fan still on)
Any suggestions on what to check?

Re: Erratic Idle
No alot you can check really other than that all the connectors for sensors are ok - disconnect check contacts and reconnect. Also chck the vac hoses and TB unsulator mounts and clamps - could be sucking air.
Retry. You can always disconnect the battery and leave it for a few minutes and reconnect and retry.
Seems to work on electronic appliances most times.
If you have a OBD tool run a diagnostic check. The ECU controls everything.

Thanks all. Yes Jim even you
Oil has only done 2k I should have said fan was running but I'm sure it wasn't hot.
Will ride it tomorrow and check all connections then.
It ran faultlessly all day. Never done anything like this before.

Re: Erratic Idle
Mine went irratic today aswell.
become a real lopping idle dropping down to 700 rpms. This started to happen after a very spirited ride up through Kenilworth.
Got home and let cool and started to find it still doing it. Decided to trie Kaupys ecu reset technique of running negative on positve with ignition on.
After running lead turned ignition off before reconnecting the earth.
Turned key.
Went through usuall noises but right at the end you could hear a cpl of clicking noises that werent usually there. Geussing it was the isc resseting position
Hit the starter
In the whole time i have owned the bike i have never heard it run so smooth. Idle went to about 1500-1600 rpm. after a minute or so she had settled and was humming along nicely
may be worth a try

No Birthday Boy.
Sorry but I rode the truck out of it last night and it wouldnt do anything but idle perfectly. Start stop start stop. perfect each time.
I gave it a clean last night and got all the bees off it and checked every connection I could see. All looked tight to me.
So mate I dont know what happened.
Maybe it doesnt like to be loped along for most of the day. The 35km squirt after I left the ride was at a good pace though

Sounds like a classic case of jealousy me thinks!!
Have you tried parking Black Betty in a separate area/room to the FZ1?

Update.............
I stopped on the way home tonight and upon returning the bike was dead except CHEK on the dash.
I know the neutral light was on when i parked but it wasn't lit next time the ignition was on.
I punched it into 1st then neutral and the light came on and she started.
So I figure I'm up for a gear position switch.
Whether it as the cause of Sundays issue I don't know.

So it's stopped sulking over the FZ then. I suggest you put a blanket of the Bandit the next time you take the FZ out so it doesn't get jealous again.

Yeah that's a good idea mate. I'll park the FZ in the bedroom. That should keep Black Betty happy eh?

I have PM'd you about how to repair that without replacing it. A dodgy switch will tell the ECU to use the wrong map, which may have had something to do with it. Easy fix and I have done a few lately with a 100% success rate.
