Baz's Snowy ride Jan 2012
I tend to stay away from the snowy when there are 2,500 other motorcyclists on the road and last Wednesday morning I decided I needed to get away, so without much thought as to packing, I did take wet weather gear which was only used on my return into Sydney (Sunday). I had great weather otherwise, overcast but not hot. I left late at about 11am so I headed towards Gundagai on the Hume Hwy stopping at the Dog-on-the-Tuckerbox and again on the lookout above Gundagai.
Tumut, stayed overnight here in the motel behind the Orient pub .. six pubs in Tumut .. all withing staggering distance from each other. I stayed at the Tumut Motor Inn behind the Orient Hotel and the guy moved his ute so my bike could be undercover. Food at the Orient was good.
I would never thought to have looked for Tumut in any other region
I met some guys from Brisbane at Cabramurra and they had rain everywhere on their trip but not on the Alpine way, it was perfect riding weather.
Riding through the naked snowgums provides an eery feeling.
They breed flys big out here and they are not afraid of me, I however have been bitten by one of these before, a Horse Fly.
In Jindabyne, I stayed at this place ... wasn't too bad, good food, cold beer, bike undercover and locked up. I would have kept going to Cooma but the weather wasn't looking good and I was thirsty as hell.

Those clouds at Jindabyne look a lot less threatening than your thirst must have been Baz. ( thought you must have done it in a time machine before you changed the date )

I didn't see any sign saying no camping, being mostly national park I think camping is permittedsb1250 wrote:Nice pics Baz! Is there camping permitted at Geehi? Otherwise I was thinking Tom Groggin. Im heading up that was next weekend hopefully.

You can camp at Geehi Hut but not in the Hut unless it is Winter from memory.
I love the Snowys in Spring/Summer way more than winter. The scenery is breath taking.
I stayed over night there in March 2009 on the way to the Aussie Horizons Unlimited Meeting.
These guys and gals greeted us when we got there in the arvo and said goodbye when we rolled out next morning.

Thanks Lads! Its been a few years since I'd camped around there. Last time was at Tom Groggin, and the road on the Khancoban side (to Geehi) was still dirt
Im hoping the camping sites wont resemble Bourke Street - but it will be Australia Day weekend.

Hey Baz.. Great Pics.. What do you think of the X creen deflector.. I am considering one as I am quite tall.. either that or a double bubble Thanks Brett
Re: Baz's Snowy ride Jan 2012
I like the vario screen but I'm 165cm it still allows some airflow over me but thats what I like. A double bubble might be better for the tallerquizguy wrote:Hey Baz.. Great Pics.. I'm 6", & the double bubble from powerbronze is not sufficient for my liking........
hope that helps...

I'm a bees dick over 6' and the stock screen is good for me depending on the helmet & jacket combo
