LED tail light
I yielded and bought a clear LED tail light (E-marked with integrated indicators) off Ebay for about $70. The hardest thing was getting the luggage racks off to remove the tail piece as the allen head bolts were made of cheese and one had to be drilled out.
The light is at least as bright as the stocker and a mate reckons it is better. The indicators are surprisingly good. I like it. I have already fitted an electronic flasher unit. The light matches the clear indicators too.

Re: LED tail light
I would have thought that as long as it shone red & the brake light was red it would be ok / blinker lenses are clear with orange globes
one of the other forums said they were illegal because there was no reflector in them but if you have a separate reflector e.g. number plate light ,I dont know if that makes up for it / maybe a call to ADR may help .

Re: LED tail light
The indicators alone would not be legal as they are not far enough apart, but if you kept the originals as well it might be ok.

Re: LED tail light
I think I have seen ones that dont have the built in indicators. Just tail and brake. I do agree that they look very smart. Oh no, I can feel an ebay search coming.
This is the only one I can find: http://www.bikemonkey.com.au/integrated-tail-lights/suzuki-1-2-3-4-5/suzuki-bandit-integrated-led-tail-light.html

Re: LED tail light
It runs well just as a taillight and brakelight too. In NZ they are legal, provided they follow what is known as the VIRM:
A retrofitted mandatory lamp must emit a light that is
visible within angles of:
a) 15Ëš above and below the horizontal, and
b) 45Ëš inboard, and
c) 80Ëš outboard.
There's no requirements about distance apart. I have tried it with and without the stock indicators and think I will run it with both to give maximum visibility. I think it just meets NZ regs, but prefer to be safer.

Brake on:
Indicators on (lamp assembly only):
I then put the stock indicators on. These are on the Givi bracket as I have a full Givi PLX539 luggage setup. (if you want to fit this, run the indicator wires under the taillight.) Both the indicator in the taillight and the stock indicator together look really good.. NZ's VIRM allows 2 sets of indicators front and rear so this is legal and about as visible as you can get.

Re: LED tail light
Am keen to fit one of these, but am still not sure of the legalities. So. I made some calls and finally spoke to a nice man at the dept of vehical modification. Contrary to some reports that I have read on the net, Clear tail light assemblies are OK and legal to fit in QLD, as long as they have an "ADR" or "ECE" compliance. Waiting to hear back from the supplier.

Looks alright, but those stock indicators and reflector combo hurt my eyes. I'll take a photo of what I did to mine if you like for comparison to tidy up the rear end.

I'd like to see those pics. I have some small LED indicators and am toying with mounting them on the sides of my topbox rack (on the "Givi" circles) I might also make up a bracket to go behind the number plate.

Re: LED tail light
I like that look. I have a US model numberplate bracket which has two ears on it which has a red reflector bolted to it on each side. Perfect for aftermarket LEDs as it clears the side bags. I scored some SCA LEDs from Supercheap, and after soldering some extensions to them, this is the result:

Re: LED tail light
Are they bright enough?? Lift the whole plate up under the tail light mate.. it'll look heaps better. Throw away the refelctor and plate light it is UGLY! You can get plate bolts with LED's that tidy it up nicely if you don't want to mod the rear tail light like what Gus and I have done.

Yes. The taillight itself has no reflective properties (either stock or aftermarket), so a reflector is required (in NZ anyway)

Re: LED tail light
I saw one of these clear lenses today and liked the look .Would it be possible to hook up the brake and tail light ONLY to operate .I'm thinking just
snip the blinker wires .Possible ,or has some-one found a clear lense NO indercators that looks the same ?

Re: LED tail light
It works fine as a taillight and uses the stock harness. The indicator wires are separate and up to you if you want to connect them. Good as a taillight and brighter than OEM

Just like the one I had on Rosie. I didn't hook up the indicators either.
