Worn Out PR2's? - Page 2 Empty Worn Out PR2's?

Post  Ewok1958 Sun 30 Oct 2011, 8:22 pm

First topic message reminder :

Folks,
How can you tell when the PR2s are shot? Mine have done 13,000kms and look good. I hadn't any reason to be asking this question up to the weekend's ride and then only in the wet. In the dry they don't feel any different to when they were new (as far as I can remember). Visually, they appear to have plenty left in them (but hey, I'm no expert).

Twice though on the weekend Bathurst ride I lost traction at the back at 100 kmph in 6th, once wihen initiating an overtake and then, same day, in the short but sharp downpour 50kms from Bathurst. The first one I was thinking "was that some oil I just hit?" The second one I was thinking "well this probably happens when you're riding in a river that 5 minutes ago was a road". But maybe it wasn't either and the tyres are getting iffy? It sure put me off this morning when we were on a damp road from a morning shower.

Are there tread wear indicators on the PR2 that I should be looking for? Should I post a piccie of the rear wear?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Ewok

I know a bloke who whenever he gets a new tyre spends valuable riding time clipping those little bits of rubber off with a nail clipper.

So when did you get out of the padded room and stop wearing one of those white coats??? lol!

Ewok

I missed this thread up until now.

Are you sure we were doing 100 kph the first time it let go? We hit a few puddles on that stretch of the Lachlan Valley Way. Maybe it was a bit of an aquaplane.

In that torrential rain between Cowra and Bathurst, my OEM Bridgestones were dodgey with about 5,300ks on them. There were rivers on that road! I was less than 10 metres behind you and I could not see anything but your tail light. If you went off the road, I would have followed you blindly.

I suspect that it was more to do with conditions.

And let's not talk about the muddy detour, I am still scarred.

I will be replacing the OEM rear with a PR2 at my 6000km service in the next few weeks.

Mate, you might have been 10m behind me (or any other distance - I wasn't looking in the mirrors) but, like you, I couldn't see a damn thing (and, with the tropical downpour, I kept wondering why I didn't suit up with the wet weather gear like you did, that was about the only thing on my mind - history will record that you were smarter than I was to suit up at that servo in the sticks!). As for going off road, man, I'm over it!!!

I wonder if Michelin do Anakees in Bandit sizes? Doubtful.

After that last dirt experience, I am trying to find a way to get a DR650 in the shed.

Ewok, your cut-off rain suit is bloody hilarious.
