87 GSX1100F
G'day All,
Found a bike for sale in Kingaroy today that I'd never before heard of. An 87 GSX1100F. Interesting critter. 16 inch wheels, electric hight adjustable wind screen, 4 into 2 exhaust and a centre stand. Apparently they were only brought into oz for the 87 run to see how they sold. Apparently not well I'd spose, or we'd see more of them. Sold in other countries as a Katana. Something out of the ordinary. Specs say 136 HP, 112 NM. And articles from the day reckon they were probably the fastet production bike on the road when they came out. Bout 256kph I think. It's got 50 thousand odd kms on the clock. (07) 41 622 822 is the shops number if anyone was interested in quizzing a bit about it. Attatched is a pic from the net just for reference.

interesting bike / just looked it up here http://www.suzukicycles.org/ apart from the early suspension problems ( later fixed ) I suppose it was a case of right bike wrong time .

Re: 87 GSX1100F
I had a maroon one that I bought 2nd hand in 1993 with 40,000k's on it. Got it to commute from Newcastle to Sydney on which it was excellent for. Had it for a couple of years & sold it with 70.000k's. The only thing that went wrong was a spark plug lead. Was heavier than a Bandit & used to wallow when pushed & brakes not as strong as current models. The engine is an earlier incarnation of the bandit 1200 & was bullet proof. Think the 136 HP claim is very high. Pretty sure it was around the Bandit 12's 100HP. Certainly quick for a tourer. The fairing / electric screen was better than my '11 GSX1250FA. If you wanted a cheapie to tour / commute on it'd certainly do the job.
Cheers,
Cheers,
