Belly Pan Review
Hi All,
Thought I'd share this. I hid engough of my lunch money from Mum to buy a Simpson Detour Belly Pan for my K6 B12.
After waiting the alotted 2 weeks It arrived. I selected the pan to be a paintable base one, I ended up with the carbon fibre patternd type.
Ok, that's fine. Lets get on with fitting it. Long story short - it doesn't. Wrong fitting kit I believe. There is just no way no matter on how you hold your head or what perspective you look at it - it's not gonna work. (insert choice words here). I selected 2006 Bandit 1200 when I ordered it online. That I am 100% certain of. I have contacted SD for feedback. So far they are saying after looking at pictures of the bike I needed the earlier model (2005??).
WTF!? This one I have must fit a noodie 1250? Now I'm confused. I know It could be made to fit but it will require new brackets and some grinding work to the pan for clearance issues (lack of). Pops or anyone if you are reading - any assistance would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

belly pan review
As the 2006 bandit was the new shape with the old motor here in Aust. some companies don't know which part to provide . My son had this issue when ordering a screen for his 2006 model so in the end he said he wanted one for a 2007 1250 model & got the right one ( they kept trying to tell him he needed the 2005 shape as well )

Sounds like a job for Gus.
Can flog it off to a 1250 owner and start again will little loss.
Frustrating I know.

Hi FT
I will take some close-up photos of mine. Is there any area in particular that I can photo that may help?

Re: Belly Pan Review
The shape of the brackets is of concern to me. I've got 4 brackets total (2 different shapes). What are the mounting locations on the frame you used?
Also if at all possible you could take pictures of the bolt hole positions on the pan itself on both sides.
I'm still waiting on feedback from the supplier in the UK.

Re: Belly Pan Review
Thanks for the images. They help alot.
Well, got word back from SD that due to the logistical difficulties involved, they are sending me the 2005 model pan as a replacement.
Nice. Gotta love that!

Re: Belly Pan Review
Do you have to send the other one back, or do you get to keep it for your trouble ?

Re: Belly Pan Review
As far as I know it's staying here. I tried to fit it again from the images posted but no cigar. Brackets are very slightly different or the mounting holes are in a different position. Someone might want it.

Re: Belly Pan Review
Well the guys at Red Fox / Simpson Detour have done me a great service. Sent me a new belly pan for a 2005 B12. It bolts up differently.
It fits but there must be a very slight difference in the shape of the exhaust between the 05 and 06? Only problems encountered is lack of clearance to the exhaust on the left side just where the pipes bend rearward. Fixed that with a grinding wheel after trying adjusting the mounts with no luck.
And the left side rear bracket is slightly the wrong shape fixed with a bit of an adjustment to the bend angle. Other than that it's fine. Looks good.
I'll post up pictures once it's painted. I woundn't go as far as saying it's a perfect fit at all. their R&D people need to work on those two points mentioned and also the angles where the bolts go through are not parallel with the head of the bolt.

Re: Belly Pan Review
I ended up with the spare belly pan .Carbon look thats a win then .4 brackets to fit it
how hard could it be . Bloody hard .
Took me ages to line it up ,brackets would not give me the right angles (without bending )
Pan would not fit against large coolant hose without cutting a moon shape in the pan .
So Grahame whats the trick ?
