Honey,we need to torque.
That heading makes every man nervious , right ?
Ive been noticeing lately some vibes in the bars and footpegs i dont think were there before ( )
I decided to check the torque settings of bracket and engine mounts .This is what i found .
Undoing the front engine mount bracket (LHS) nuts they were very tight ALL the way out .Putting them back in was impossible with the threads
not lineing up . I had to undo the engine mounting nut so the bracket would move to line up threads .Not ideal
THe two rear engine mounts should be torqued to 88 n-m . Thats tight but not excassive.Trying to undo them i was not sure what was going to break first ,the bolt ,the socket ,the extension piece or my back .SO Fn tight ,no ,tighter than that .I was really ready for the socket to break .
Torqueing it back up to 88 n-m took no pressure at all ,just ,well, tight .Thats as far as i have got, i needed a rest .
Frame connecting blots (4) Two front ones ,very hard to "crack " When doing up (grease them ) 55n-m feels loose .
two bottom ones ,not as hard as front ones and easyer to hold the rear nuts from spinning .
Over all ,prick of a job, but worth doing .Those rear engine mounting bolts were SO TIGHT .

Re: Honey,we need to torque.
Was your bike built during one of the earthquakes or tsunamis in Nippon? I know what I'd do if I was at the factory when one of those bastards hit. I'd tighten the nuts as fast as I could without looking at the torque setting and then run out of the factory to either the dunny or to the saki pub.
Come to think of it, and jokes aside, I wonder how many of our bikes are affected during production by these adverse natural events?
Gus seeing as you remove everything off your bike anyway. Just take the nuts and bolts out and chuck em, there's plenty more around the engine.
I'm off to check mine now......

Re: Honey,we need to torque.
Going to buy a torque wrench. Started to take the front wheel off yesterday to have a Pr2 fitted. The 4 M8 bolts at the bottom of the forks were finger tight even though I had checked all the bolts at first service.

I'd use light strength loctite on them bolts if they rattled loose by themselves

Heat the nut with a mini gas torch to soften the thread locker Mr Suzuki uses

I know with the early models some of them needed to have the motor re-torqued to cure vibes ( happened to a mate of mine )so maybe . the rubber grommet on your exhaust probably helped as well ( I can relate to pins & needles in the hands , I`ve got rheumatoid arthritis & it affects my carpal tunnel among other things at times / kinda scary with numb hands ! )
