She's a 1948 Pontiac Silver Streak in need of some TLC.

There is some huge potential there.
Looks in good nick for its age.
Powered by what?

She's got a straight 8 and a 4 speed auto (original). We just want to get it going and use it for what it is . Trying to get the kids interested in doing a bit of spannering!

Dunno about "awsome" Gus, but the ol girl certainly has a bit of character about her! It has just enough grunt to get up the hills - only just ! With 107hp when new, and 6.5:1 compression, it almost runs on kero

Awwww, cmon Gus! The paint is almost worn thru, but the body is perfect . Bet you havent got a coupla bent valves, clogged internal oil filter, vaccuum pump on the fritz, and in dire need of a complete interior???

One of the nurses had the most beautiful eyes ( Thats all she had showing ). I thought " Fuck no " thats all i need laying down with
only a sheet on .

Finally got a time slot booked on MY computer !
So, for those of you who asked - ere's some of my progress on the ol girl.

Gus, this was "one" of the bent valves.

She had a nice burble and then a few "pops", back to a nice burble. So I ended up replacing and reseating 2 exhaust valves.

There was a bit of work removing the sump and internal oil filter - which needed a major clean out.

The carby needed a complete o/haul. Wow, now there's a business opportunity. Try finding a reputable mechanic who specialises in carby repairs! It certainly is a dying art thanks to fuel injection.

The main job at the moment is the 6 - 12 volt conversion. I was suprised that nothing caught on fire with the old wiring. Bad earths, no shielding, and its age were fighting the whole elec system.

A new wiring kit, alternator conversion, coil, lights etc etc....... wooooo, what a science project for someone who has never rewired a car before

Great work.. I love old cars. My old man will gift me his 1970 HG Premier one day. He already told my wife she could have it after a few beers

..and my younger brother has a 1968 HK Panelvan that just needs some TLC and she'll look a million bucks. It's the car I picked my girlfriend (now wife) up in 14 years ago when my car blew up again (1975 gemini coupe). Her parents didn't mind the hotdog exhaust

It was only a few weeks between getting it back up and running. My old Gemini got me into doing stuff myself. 2 engine blow ups and how many head gaskets later

They were a shit car. But the old girl in the OP is a beauty. Looks like that oil has been in there a VERY long time.

One of my young blokes helps out as much as he can. He thought it was great that dad told him to climb up into the engine bay and start undo-ing stuff! Trying my hardest to get the old girl registered ASAP, but there's all those little jobs slowing me up. Makes it hard with limited time n space

Oh, THAT oil filter! Pontiac decided that a non serviceable internal oil filter system was the way to go

They probably thought it would outlast the "Car Fad".

Thats a great project SB. Jan has got an old VW under tarps and shelter that would be a good starter for me Hmmmmm. How long have you givin yourself to complete the restore ?

Well, it started as a quick fix ere n there, chuck some tyres on, throw a seat cover over the springs etc, get it on the road - 3 months tops !

Then as I looked deeper, things needed a bit more attention before I felt comfortable taking the family out for a cruze. So the 3 months turned into a year......then 2.......:roll:. Im "aiming" for xmas this year. That'll make it nearly 3 years since I bought it.



A VW! There's a lot of parts available for those now.......even Subaru conversions!
