Re: My GSF1250SAK8
Thanks mate, it's an add on, just cost the arm, the Ohlins forks should arrive tomorrow or Wednesday and that will be the leg It will go on with a GSX-R1000K8 front wheel, 320mm disks and radial brakes... but this will take some time as I need to have a custom drop triple clamp machined up so I will have to save a while. At least putting my money down for the forks commits me to completing the project.
Still, I'll be quite a while catching up to your Bandit, how mean does that look! BTW how many shots do you get out of the Nox bottle?
Cheers

Re: My GSF1250SAK8
I'm with you on the dark tint screen ,clear ones always look unfinished to me .
Your going to hate this but i think (so take no notice ) that something needs to be done with the wheels . That bike is far from standard yet at
fist glance ? .The more you look the more you see how non standard it is and i love it. It just needs a WOW facter near the ground
to set that pipe off. Sure you wont mind me saying this ,thats why we put pics up isnt it .Nice job i want that exhaust .

Re: My GSF1250SAK8
Thanks Cam and Steve, hope to catch you guys up again at the Tathra ride. Big news here is that my Ohlins forks have arrived, they're at Suspension Smith atm being adjusted to 130mm travel (They can be set to 120 mm or 130 mm), and I will post some pic's when I get my preeeciouses back. Once set up I will be able to determine the dimentions of the drop triple clamp required to make them work on a Bandit.
If anyone out there is interested I will soon be selling my current set up, it will be a ride in ride out job, so may be of interest to someone local:
For sale for $500 exchange plus will throw in a set of 25% worn Ferodo HH+ pads, retail from Holshot is $77.90 for free
The forks have 12000 km on them total and the mods were all installed about 6000 km ago.
Cheers Peter

Re: My GSF1250SAK8
Update on the Ohlins forks. Well, they are still with Suspension Smith as we need a couple of special tools and they are still coming...it was a mistake not to have them adjusted Stateside. In the interim the GSX-R1000K8 lower triple clamp has arrived and I have been doing some measurements. Guess what? The fork pitch (distance fork center to fork centre), offset (distance from the centre of the steering stem to the centreline of the forks) and steering stem diameter (207mm, 30mm and 32mm respectively) are the same as the Bandit. Of course, the Bandit steering stem is longer, but it looks like I may be able to swap the steering stems and get a custom drop upper clamp rather than a complete custom clamp.
So, next week if I'll grab the forks and post the photo's as promised earlier.

Re: My GSF1250SAK8
Here's the GSX-R1000K8 lower triple clamp on the right...just a little beefier than the Bandit unit on the left,
Du'oh ... that does not look right,
Guess I just have to go find a straight one now!

Re: My GSF1250SAK8
Bummer about the clamp mate. If that fits up okay how long are the standard GSXR forks as that may be a good front end swap for minimal outlay. Will be good to see what you have to say about the Ohlins as they are pretty flash for the Bandit.

Re: My GSF1250SAK8
According to this table they are 720mm top cap to axle centreline, the lengths for the Bandit and the Ohlins are 770mm and 730mm (when set to 130mm travel). So, to use the GSX-R forks you will need to use a 50mm drop in the upper clamp...not a bigee really.

Re: My GSF1250SAK8
Update. The new GSXR1000 upper and lower triple clamp arrived on Friday. I slotted the fork legs and axle in over the weekend and they are straight. I had the steering stem swapped and it turns out the offset and pitch are the same as the Bandit! Would you believe that the difference in geometry between the two bikes is down to the rake (steeper) which leads to shorter fork legs and less trail.
Tomorrow, back out to suspension smith to determine how we are going to sort out the required drop in the upper clamp.

Re: My GSF1250SAK8
Progress Report.
Well, turned out that the offset was not the same as the Bandit (GSX-R 28mm, B1250 30mm), nor the fork pitch (GSX-R 207mm, B1250 205mm). So, that meant a custom top triple clamp and some spacers to make up the 40mm difference in fork length between the Ohlins and the B1250 OEM. Have got the new parts and had a trial fit:
First shot shows the forks and GSX-R front wheel
Next shot shows the radial brakes and wave rotors
This shot shows the custom billet upper triple clamp
Next step will be a little more milling of the top clamp to fit the ignition/steering lock, and then to arrange some steering stops and mounts for the cable tidy's.

Re: My GSF1250SAK8
Looking good mate. If you are making one you may as well make another
If you can make a kit so you can swap a GSXR or similar front end straight in without too much pissing about I'm sure you'd find plenty of people who'd be keen to buy them

Re: My GSF1250SAK8
nice work on the front end mate, i can fully relate with the hi's and low's of doing the front end swap after doing mine using a 08 hayabusa front and rear on my 96 bandit, just to throw my 2 cent's at you the bottom clamp come's up beautifuly if you take to the factory mould join in the middle of the clamp with a file to knock it off and then rub it with a few different grade's of sand paper to smooth it out and polish it up,they come up really nice........fast and easy to do

Re: My GSF1250SAK8
Thanks Harry, I will see how I go for time, initially at least I just want to sort the issues and fine tune the setup. How did you address the issue of the the reduction in fork length?
Cheers Peter

Re: My GSF1250SAK8
Hi peter, in regard to the differance in the fork length the answer was easy mate, i put the matching rear end on as well
my bandit now has a seat height of around 780 mm so thank's to the addittion of the 08 hayabusa front and rear end's it sit's
bout the height of a hayabusa..i still havent ridin the thing yet due to still sorting out an electrical problem....power every where
but no spark at the plug's,im about to give in and send it to a bike machanic...either way peter you can have a look at it in the
picture section under the heading of harry who's bandit, bout half way down the page from this thread mate.
the only issue i had with the front end change was having to replace the steering stem to one which was 4 thread's longer than
the standered 96 bandit, head bearing's are the same but run under a different part number.
sorry if im not much help to you peter but if nothing else you bike should turn into corner's a tad quicker due to the angle of the
leg's and handle much better with the new suspension..the stock suspension is the bandit's biggest let down.
keep up the good work mate the bike look's great..........
