Victorian Roads
Just got back from Phillip Island.
I won't spiel on that. ...yes it was good.
More to the point, Victoria's Roads.
Got to say, you lads down there have got it lucky. Your roads are in very good condition, and you've got some gems. Also, given that Queensland is six times bigger, you don't have far to go for a good ride.
My favorite roads that we had time for, were :
Delegate to Orbost- Although there was about 11kms of dirt this way, the other 100km or so was fantastic. A constant left right twist the whole way. This was on the way down.
The other favorite was from Omeo to Mita Mita. Another sensational road. About 120kms of constant twist. This was coming back.
(If these roads were in Queensland, they'd be full of pot holes and corrugated corners.)
The Alpine Way in NSW is always good and scenic, but I think the said roads took the cake.
The Putty Rd and Oxley Hi-way, used to rate, but I now think their second rate. To the point that I didn't even bother with the Oxley this time. It's in atrocious condition these days. A shame really.
Now, if I could put up with your weather, I'd move down there.

Yep, those two roads are favorites on our annual Alpine Ride. If you're back down this way, I'd also recommend the Mt Darragh Rd and the Link Rd in the Snowy Mts.

Re: Victorian Roads
I think you've got too many roads down there to mention.
Spoilt for choice on any weekend.

Re: Victorian Roads
I thought you S.A boys had hills behind Adelaide, where they have or had the Targa race ?
I've got perception of what the Adelaide, S.A area offers...I guess not alot then ??
The Brisbane region has some alright to nice roads, not spectacular, but I can't complain for what we've got I guess.
The next closest thing to mountain rides is the Atherton Table Land, 1800-2000kms north. For that distance, I'd go down south again.

We have some great roads but,
where as the Eastern states have great roads that last 100's of km, we have them that go for 10, 20 and if we are really lucky 40km.
You can put together a ride that takes you through 3 states and is mostly good roads, we can put together a couple of hundred km of mostly good roads if we start down South and work our way around Adelaide. If we head up to the Flinders Ranges we get more of the same, other parts of the state will get a isolated 10-20 km of good road here and there, you have them North to South for 100's of km
Most of our great roads are now 80kmh and heavily policed, mostly flash for cash hidden in the bushes
Re: Victorian Roads
Come on, the weather's not that bad!
If it's raining, wait a minute and it will stop. If it's not raining it soon will be.
However I got the wettest ever, in WA in mid January! go figure....
We wont talk about the winter temperatures...........

Re: Victorian Roads
Last time I went down in 2012, I had a dream run down and back. This time was exactly the same. We dodged bullets some how.
On Phillip though it was in true form.
The Friday had sporadic bursts all day.
Saturday morning was torrential rain going to the track, with intermittent all day.
Sunday was perfect.

Yep, the Gillies Hwy from Gordonvale to Atherton should be on everyone's Bucket List.
Actually most of the Atherton Tablelands is very pleasant but only in winter, too bloody hot in summer.

I've driven it heaps of times, but never riden it.
The problem is, you destroy the centre of your tyres going up and back from Brisbane.
At least 3600kms of straight boring road return.
