Running on Empty Running on

Post  bandr Tue 27 Mar 2012, 5:11 pm

Can anyone advise where to begin in diagnosing and correcting my 96 (carby) model that runs beautifully but has an idle problem. I have only had the bike a month and noticed that when riding slowly or when coming to a stop, it insists on idling at 2500-3000 rpm. Once stopped I have to 'clutch it' to lower the revs back to 1000-1200 rpm where it then happily sits, albeit a little lumpy. Can anyone offer some advice? Thanks, Dave (new member)

Vacuum leak would be my guess if not sticking throttle cables

You need to balance the carbys. I use the poor man's balancing tool and it works great, I can post a how-to if you are interested.

I'd also check the vacuum lines etc, and if it's been sitting around a lot (not ridden) I'd run some carby cleaner stuff through a few tankfulls to make sure it's all clean inside.

Sounds like mine, only got my bandit Wed. Go for a ride and it then idles t about 3500 rpm, load up the clutch and it will drop back and almost stall.  Any idea on a price to get the carby's balanced?

Bike is now running great, turns out that the choke was stuck on a bit. Any idea of what sort of fuel economy I should get?
