Front caliper compatibility

Post  Banditnewb on Sat 21 Jan 2017, 7:31 pm

My 93 gsf250 front caliper has a stuck piston, im wondering whether its worth me rebuilding the caliper or is there a bolt on upgrade from a higher up model? its the twin piston model was looking at a 4 pot option? thanks

There's not too many of us with that bike so you might struggle getting answers.

For compatibility I use one of the parts web sites - usually Alpha Sports - then look at the part numbers of what I want to compare.

Having just said that I tried looking up a 93 GSF250 on three of my parts sites, none of them list this bike.   It appears that model may not have been sold in the US where most of the web parts sites are from, so sorry looks like you're back to local knowledge.

Thanks for that. Im lead to believe the 400 shares the same parts. I've foind a few calipers online that look like they could work but im reluctant to make tge purchase without being sure..

Best place to start would be to visit or ring a bike wrecker

Pull the calliper apart first, then determine what direction to take. It may just need a seal kit, and a good clean.
Seal kit shouldn`t be that dear???

Don`t blow money on another calliper for no reason, unless there is some major corroding and pitting going there.

Yeah i found a seal kit for $40 but wasnt sure i could get the pistons free but after an hour of stuffing around i managed to get them out.
The seals had actually partially broken down and fused to the piston and the old fluid had turned semi solid and resembled mud. Shows how much the previous owner looked after the bike. The good news is the pistons dont appear to have any pitting the caliper and pistons are soaking in fuel overnight and ill have a better look at it after work tomorrow.

Seal kits from a suzuki dealer should not be expensive. It might be worth giving them a call and get a quote
