Another one bites the dust
So, it seems I have to move on after a long and satisfying association with all things Bandit. Yep, from this morning I officially ride "not a bandit". Well, two "not bandits", actually.
My trusty old workhorse has gone to god (after I inserted it up the clacker of a CBF1000R in a carpark on Mt Hotham)
So for several weeks the search for a replacement for the old slapper has been on.
This morning the new steed arrived in the driveway.
Which way did I go?

You lucky, lucky bastard!
PS: As I'm having to wait for a buyer for the old XS, you might find me out on Mt Hotham looking for a victim! Any tips (that wasn't meant to be a joke)?

Yes - its very simple.
Gracefully step off your Bandit while it is travelling in a forwardly direction at low speed. Ensure when it falls over that the engine mounting bolts are chamfered a bit by the road surface. Your repairer will ring Suzuki Australia enquiring why there is no price given in his ordering fiche for that one foot removable frame rail that the engine mount is welded to.
He will be told that that part is not sold separately and that you have to buy a whole new frame at $4500.00. Jobs done.
PS I suggest confirming that your insurance is current before trying this in the comfort of your own home.

Only 200k so far and I was certainly doing that (apart from having my arse pounded into gluteus maximus mush within that distance)

For anyone not living in NSW (where everything is made a Statutory Writeoff regardless), a insurance buyback could be a option if the rest of the damage isn't too bad, then find another writeoff to source the piece of frame from

I`ll be interested to hear your feedback on this thing, in a few months time.
I was booked into test ride one about 6weeks ago, but had to drop out due to commitments, so very curious!!!!!
Want to know about it`s short shifting low RPM torque delivery?? Not HP!!!
Good luck mate, oh...and RIP Bandit.

Looks good tag.
Should be easy to see you coming, if you use the drifting technique on a regular basis. Those wheels are BRIGHT!

A short update mtb: Much fettling and skulltinkery are going on in its infancy. (most importantly it's going to Terry Hays Shock Treatment in a fortnight - that should change many things)
For the meantime, the motor is a beauty. Best midrange of any litre class I've ridden (may or may not be better or worse than the S100RR. I should be able to get a swapsies ride with a friend who owns one soon.) Motor sounds great and has smooth roll on in standard mode. The 3 engine modes give good, useful changes. Throttle closing is the only thing that's mildly snatchy and engine braking is better than expected. Because of Euro 4 it does 100% fuel cut on decel. If you rev the tits off it its fuckofffast.
Ergonomics and electronics and controls work seamlessly and intuitively - and the cruise control is the shizz
The downside - its arse and what its doing to my arse. The seats a plank. Pain begins after the first hour and ramps up exponentially. Only acceptable for track days and café cruising.
The front suspension is good off the floor - only change for me is I may need one size up spring but damping is fine.
The rear shock is also perfectly suited to track days and café cruising but there is a light switch change when the road surface deteriorates and the rear end turns into a nightmare. Frequent violent bottoming and the chassis balance gets completely out of control. So far I've ruptured seven testicles (the third was a real surprise, 4 through seven not quite so surprising, but still bemusing) I've taken to wearing a kidney belt and my bingo wings are getting stretch marks.
I'll post up again after the suspension work.
PS When Ewok rode it he looked like he was humping a hampster - but he is 6' 19"

Re: Another one bites the dust
My assessment of the rear suspension on the MT10 is that it is harder than my former 2008 Fireblade - but then, I had expected a very stiff suspension on a 1000cc supersport (so the Fireblade was no surprise - road-bridge joins were the worst and you really needed to lift your ass off the seat before the rear wheel hit the join), and surprised the MT10 was up in that class, supposedly being a more all-rounder super-sports-tourer. Yamaha haven't put enough work into "de-tuning" the R1 shock for use in their MT10.

Re: Another one bites the dust
Hi Tag. Yeah, they look like a good bit of kit.
It must be a bit annoying to have to change the suspension??
I just read a couple of reviews, by the....."powers that be", to give opinions to the masses, (pick a magazine)and they seemed to think it was fantastic bike. They did mention the seat was firm.
I also went to Yamaha`s own site, and was a bit shocked at their specs sheet, saying it gets 8L/100kms, have you found that? given it`s got a 17L tank, that's a fairly short range.
I rode a S1000RR, when they first came out, and I didn`t like low to mid range torque at all. Sure when you get to 6500-7000, the things a rocket, but I found it too doughy for my general riding style. That was quiet a few years ago now, so I don`t know if they`ve changed maps...more than likely they have.
I`m still in a bit of a daze when it comes to what to get next. I still, will test ride the MT 10 this week coming.
The only bike that has really rocked my boat in recent times, is the 1100 Aprilia Tuono. This thing has it all. Torque....my god do they have torque, at just about any RPM. The one thing that annoys me with this bike is, it`s god damn loud, and there is zero attempt at trying to be stealth, at 2:00 in the morning if your on the way home, if living in the burbs.
I`ve had enough of chucking money at my Bandit`s, but in saying that, I`ll never get rid of them, as they still flicker a light in me.
Trying to find the perfect bike, is like trying to find the Holy Grail.
I want- a light bike that handles, in an upright position,(naked) smooth, (meaning inline four) QUIET!!!!!, and "shit loads of torque" I mean figures starting with around 125nm at 6000rpm peak torque. All the litre bike are around 115nm maybe a little more, and deliver that torque quiet high in the RPM, 9500 onwards.
The MT 10 specs are 79mm bore, and 50.9mm stroke. If they increased the stoke a bit, they`d get that low down torque, but no manufacturer, of the main jap brands will do that, because of the litre class.
I rode a b-king, love the torque, but what a mass of a bike it is, too big for my liking.
How good are the headlights, have you been on any pitch black night, roads yet to test them out?
Shit I sound like a whiney bitch!!!

A most generous declaration. But there's still 350 days to go, I'm sure someone will knock me off the perch.

Yep, but I do it to all my bikes to handle the roads in the mountains.
I also went to Yamaha`s own site, and was a bit shocked at their specs sheet, saying it gets 8L/100kms, have you found that? given it`s got a 17L tank, that's a fairly short range
Yep you can't get much over 200k out of it.

Best way to see what the motor's like

I rode the Super Duke and it was everything above. Its just a stonking great beast of a bike but is also fantastically mild mannered if you want it to be and they're going for 22 grand rideaway. The only downside would be the self destructing rear hubs, the splitting radiators, the warping front rotors, the starter motors that stop starting and - well, you get the idea.
How good are the headlights, have you been on any pitch black night, roads yet to test them out?
Dunno yet but I'll find out soon and let you know.
Shit I sound like a whiney bitch!!!
Yep..... oh, wait. You're whining for everything I want in a bike - as you were.
