Changing teams

Just a thought at the moment, but thinking to change the 1250fa to a Ducati Multi Strada s 1200 .........

You know the positives of the bandit. You probably need to ride the duke and decide if it floats your boat and if  you are prepared to pay for a euro machine and its servicing costs

Something like an inlet over exhaust transplant ? 

I have not ridden one as yet. I've heard many stories of all the constant problems with Ducati's and I've also heard how good they are when they work. Not that I've ever had any issue at all with the 1250FA. Just thinking of a change and a new 2015/2016 1250FA is exactly the same as my 2010 one. No evolution.

The Yamaha MT09 is apparently quite a fun bike too

Have you considered the vStrom if you want an adventure bike?

The negative is they are staggeringly good bikes and you'll be gone for all money if you ever swing your leg over one.
Oh, and if you have a short leg you may have trouble swinging it over. They have a fairly tall seats (850mm)

And the remote keys lead to amusing little incidents.

Been through this a couple of months back and ended up buying a FA. I was looking at KTM SDR GT and BMW S1000xr. But costs for parts and accessories were mind boggling. 

And all of the more expensive brands seem to have problems in one way or the other.  

So I bought a low Ks FA with full luggage. Sorted the suspension and fitted a stage 2 Holeshot kit. My beloved asked me on the weekend over our Coms units what I was giggling about. It was the punch the FA has out of corners. 

The $20,000 I saved will pay for plenty of rides....

The FA is not perfect, the fastest ever etc. But for me it works.

I've no idea how good a Multistrada is, but a chap down our way has just bought another one after writing one off, then having a period with an ST4S. He really rates them, but like the BMWs, they represent a 500km round trip to a dealer to get a service. And those servicing don't come cheap. As I've stated elsewhere, I'm looking to replace the Bandit with an MT10 in the next 12 - 18 months. Pricier than the MT09 by a fair margin but far superior specs.

I looked at a MT-10. Nice bikes. I need a luggage package and only the small Yamaha system put me off a bit.

I recently left the FA fold (yes am still lurking here, always a good read!) My ride is now an Aprilia Caponord. The Duc MS was one of the possibles I considered.
The motor is "better" than the bike I ended up with and for NZ at least Ducati has more availability of parts and accessories. I think the Australian Aprilia setup is better than NZ but that would not be hard.
I am 1.96m so the seat height was not a problem to me but can see how it might be. I actually felt cramped despite the height, the pegs were in the wrong place for me. So height dimensions are only part of the story.
The rear brake was non existant (to me) which is fine if you just intend to hoon on tracks or highways.
Skyhook suspension is nice but not THAT good. I had a Nitron set up on my FA so my expectations are set accordingly.
My wife rides her own bike but we do ride two up and a comfy pillion was on the non negotiable list, the MS was a disappointment in that regard.
At the end of the day the MS is a hell of a bike but it was not $8000 more a hell of bike than the Aprilia.
The XR is fine if you don't mind lots of vibrations and having no money left for fuel by the way.

well, after more research into the Multi Strada, I've changed my mind and will stick with the FA1250.
Sure, it's much more advanced and it's lighter, taller and lots of electronics, but the insurance is about 3 times the FA, let alone the outlay (about twice that of a FA). I can service the FA myself too. I've never had anything go wrong with my FA.....so for now it's staying put.

Cool, you looked at it the same as I did then. 

Everything I looked at had faults that needed sorting or it needed dongles to work right and even 3k for the 2 plastic boxes for the back.

BMWs seem to have cam problems and vibrate, KTMs seem to just rattle apart, Aprilias arseplode.

Im not paying 30k for a problem. FA I can do everything on and with the Stage 2 kit it goes very well.

Even better....Today I updated to a near new 2015 model..........so I'll be selling my 2010 one.

Well there are people who buy based on practicality and those who buy based on passion.
I guess the FA fits with the former but you'll probably always wonder what if.

I love my "passion" bike and I've ticked that one off. There's a few more to go too

Now chuck a Holeshot stage 2 kit at it and laugh at the guys that cant keep up on bikes worth twice as much.
