I have just changed the oil and filter on my GSX1250FA for the first time.I have used a Hiflo filter and Castrol Power Racing 10W40 fully sythetic.When I started it for the first time,the oil light and symbol stayed on for about 8 seconds.Is this normal?

Probably about right although I would have thought 5 secs more normal. The trick is to pre fill/soak  the filter first. You'll need to drain most back to refit out but at least there is some there.
