Who has the best climate for motorbikes?

It rained today in Adelaide but not enough to put my wet weather gear on, honestly, I can't remember the last time I used it. It got me thinking about how lucky we are here with the weather (unless you want a green garden)

About 6 1/2 years ago I was given a rain gauge and have kept a record ever since:

I know some of you live where 100-200 mm in a day is not unheard of, we've had yearly totals since 2009 of 448mm, 570mm, 469mm, 482mm, 458mm and 442 in 2014. These have been considered pretty good rainfall years for us, for 5 or 6 years prior to that we were in drought and it was much lower.

2014 started of wetter than average but ended drier than average, we had

234 days of no rainfall
53 days of less than 1.0 mm
51 days of 1 to 5 mm
16 days of greater than 5, up to 10 mm
9 days of greater than 10, up to 20 mm
1 day greater than 20, up to 50 mm
1 day greater than 50 mm

Most days under 5mm I wouldn't have to put my wet weather gear on to go to/from work

I reckon we are pretty spoilt as bike riders in SA, plenty of our country areas have even less days of rain fall, does anyone live in a better bike riding climate?

BTW, so far in 2015, of the 1st 83 days we've had rain in 11 days, only 5 of them have registered 1 mm or greater

I put mine on tonight ( pissed down in the south )  typical  ................but brown lawns are nice.  
 I think SA is spoiled weather & close to home riding roads wise  .

Compared to where you live now your home town would be sensational, it is not that much different to Adelaide. although when it does rain in Perth it usually rains heavier

Their average (21 years) rain fall is 730 mm a year, with 81 days a year having more than 5mm

Adelaide's average (38 years) is only 543 mm  a year, with 82 days a year having more than 5mm

Well not the way I remember it. Perth was always bloody dry. Family over there still complain about the lack of rain. I guess those 80 days must be all strung together.

we have the same rain free days and everyone complains about the lack of rain here as well, add to the 80 days another 50-100 of stuff all and that's nearly 1/2 the years gone

I reckon these stats are about as accurate as the weather predictions

There's no way Melbourne averages 93 days and 603mm. It rains all bloody year here!

Ahhh  Hmmm.    When you Guys n Gals are all rugged up down there. Switching on your "grip warmers" ( WTF are they ? ). Pulling on your wet weather gear, your balaclava, your thermal underwear, your 20 below gloves. Stuffing newspapers down the front of your jackets. Riding in the pouring rain with your visor up because you can't see where the hell your going because the visor keeps fogging up. Taking 4 days to dry your boots out after being caught in a tsunami like flood where truck drivers roared passed you and sent  5 foot walls of water crashing over you. When your out riding and all of a sudden you hit a spot of Black Ice on the road and down you go. No fault of yours. Even Marc Marquez would have hit the deck in those conditions. And you struggle to lift the big beast back up only to slip on the ice all fall ungracefully on top of your bike. Cage drivers drive passed and smile at you. Little kids point their snotty covered finger at you. You wonder what the hell you are doing out there.
Then you drift off and think of us Queenslanders. Up here in winter, riding about in summer wear on delightful 20 degree days. Blue skies. Little puffy white clouds. Robins singing in the trees.  Ahhhhhhhh.

And what were those stats for Brisbane, oh yeah 89days and 1158mm

So while we're down here enjoying what they call "summer" (not really) you guys are sweating profusely in shorts and singlets as soon as you leave the air conditioning. And when you do walk outside its pissing down harder than anything we southerners get.
We might have to rug up in winter down here but at least we don't end up soaked from the inside on a "good" day in summer.

Stats !   There for cricket fanatics.

Melbournes as bad as London.  They have to put roofs on sporting stadiums just so that they can play footy.

Obviously Newcastle has the best climate for riding. We're not afraid of precipitation around here.  
365 days a year the weather is always good enough for a ride. 
I don't know what you girls are complaining about.

Adelaide's a whole lot warmer and dryer than our Eastern neighbours captital, we also get a lot more days of sunshine than Brisbane as well as less than 1/2 the rain you get, my last trip to the so called "Sunshine State" I had to plan very carefully to make sure I caught some sun

Well,  I think I'm blessed here in Chiang Mai,  Thailand.  Temperatures vary between 28-29 in winter to about 36 in summer.  I ride around in shorts and a t-shirt all year round (around town that is,  on a trip I'll wear my kevlar jeans and a jacket).

During the wet season (May to Oct) we'll get a fair bit of rain,  but mostly at night.  Doesn't interfere with riding too much.  Occasionally you'll get a bit of rain in the afternoon but you can see it coming and you just get out your plastic poncho (like you see at the cricket) and put it over your shorts and t-shirt and your set.

I couldn't post these from work so I had to wait 'till I got home, by all means wear what you like, personnally I dont want to end up like this when a little bit of effort will prevent or minimise it happening, you don't have to be going fast to do this to yourself







I'd rather my boots end up like this than even thinking about how my feet would have looked

Isn't that because "any weather" over there is usually wet

I'd rather ride in cool wet weather than 30+ and 90% humidity, at least when it's cool you can rug up, when it's hot and sticky you just sweat like hell

on the West Coast of the South Island probably  
we do pride ourselves on having actual seasons rather than hot and dry and a bit less hot and dry
but yes, a wee bit cooler makes for a more pleasant day on the bike.

its all relative I suppose I have a Canadian brother-in-law, he was discussing with my nephew the attractions of a job offer the nephew had received to go and work in Winnipeg......

Its ok you lot in the southern hemisphere getting into a tiz about who has the fewest millimetres of rain and the most days of sunshine.Spare a thought for us poor sods in Blighty where the rain is measured in feet and summer is classed as 2 sunny days in a row.You lot don't know you are born!
