First topic message reminder :

I am trying to figure out why I am getting such a sooty carbon buildup on the plugs on the VX800. Anyone have any ideas?? Pic attached

No smoke at startup & not noticeable on upshift.. uses 400ml every 1000km unless I do a lt of miles at100kph then 200ml every 400km

I'd say that's excessive compared to mine, I never had to top mine up between 6000km services for over 100000km, I reckon the most it used in 6000km was less than 100ml

I think this engine has had a hard life, I have done an oil change and used HPR30 20W60. A couple of the VJMC guys recommended I do this.

Sounds right...just give it a good 'old fashioned' warm-up.
