Get past their "unique" looks and they're a lot of bike for the money especially in this years black or graphite colours. New or used 

saw a black one in PS tonight & must admit the black disguises the " uniqueness " heaps .

You certainly seem to get a lot of sports-touring bike for the money - pretty cheap compared to GTR-14s, FJRs, BMWs and even the Ninja 1000 (with panniers).I'm not a fan of the muffler style (on the VFR or the Ninja) but fitted with an aftermarket can the VFR doesn't look too bad (IMHO).

Another "Bird" rider that I meet last Saturday on a ride was picking up a brand new VFR12 this week for 16 1/2. ( Keeping his Bird though )  That is a serious discount on what they first sold for. Sorta like the Bandit story.  The VFR is a beautifully built motorcycle. BUT .    For some strange reason it just did not catch on the way Mr Honda thought it would.  Bird owners wanted a 13 or 1400 Bird replacement. Simple as that.  Would I own a VFR ?   Yes.

I first saw one about 3 years ago, when I was parked beside one, and didn`t know what the hell it was.  It had no markings on it, but looked all right, except for the system. I thought it looked very bulky.

I eventually found out what it was, and the concept behind the system.

So from what I understand, they come in an auto version, and a manual with slipper clutch..

What you going for?

Realistically I'll be getting the manual but if the right used auto turned up I'd consider it as everyone who has tested the system says after you get used to it it's brilliant. 
The darker the colour the better they hide the bulk but the bulk is "designed" for airflow and pilot protection. 
They're a bike style that's grown on me but they would still be ruled out if at their proper $25k.

sorry mate, when I said bulky, I meant the exhaust system only, not the bike. I think the bike looks nicely balanced to the eye.

They need to be price competitive as there are a few GTR1400s around with low kms between $13 - $15k, with full luggage and other options.

So how was the test ride 2WA ? ....................

Dave the 14's are a bit bulky I reckon. The VFR1200 still has a but of a sporting crouch at the bars.
We'll see on the test ride I guess.

Didn't we want lighter , not heavier ? Also, what will a used one be worth in 12 months if they are being discounted now ?

Show me a full dressed tourer under 270kg and to be honest its only 20 more than the GSF and less than that over the GSX but with 80% more power.
Who buys a bike for its resale? I buy to use it for its intended purpose and if I get 3, 5, 7 or 10ys with minimal cost of ownership I'm happy
Hope to test ride on Friday. I'll report back.
