What is CTP? Is it insurance or is it rego? Obviously these get called different things state to state.

Compulsory Third Party insurance. The insurance you have to pay (compulsory) with your rego. In Queensland it is around 100 dollars for single seat and around 300 for dual.

Third party property insurance was around 900 with Suncorp. All the companies I spoke to said my bike was a sports bike because of the S after its name. What a load of dicks.

So you mean you guys over east have to pay your third party(injury) insurance seperate to your rego? Ours is all in together and no where near that much!

Well the thing is we only "have" to pay the ctp part with our rego. You are not compelled to hold full comprehensive insurance at all ( unless the vehicle is under finance ). CTP covers personal injury only. So if you risk it and hit a mercedes your in the shit.

MCC (NSW) is trying it's best to fight the stupidity that is the increase in CTP costs for bikes 250cc and under and 1150cc and over.

If you pop over to the Two Wheels forum 'Buckets' (Rob) has posted a link to the MCC press release.

Well Cameron, I'm sure your bike doesn't have an 'S' after it, imagine what it would cost if it did .. No No

Getting a green slip every year is a real pain, but it pays to shop around. Each rego renewal the provider of the current green slip will send a renewal notice so you can just ignorantly pay it and get your vehicle registered. Shop around. It only takes 15min< on the net. There is a link on the RTA site for a green slip comparison, type in your details and it'll show the prices for all green slips available. The renewal you have just been sent is usually one of the dearest ones.
A lot of mates say that NRMA is cheapest, but only if you have existing comprehensive with them. So... even if you have comp/3rd party with someone else, ring NRMA and get an over-the-phone comprehensive cover note (valid for 14 days - I think). Then ring up NRMA green slip department and "yes, I'm an existing customer....". Green slip purchased & bike rego'ed, cancel cover note.
The cheapest comprehensive I could get was from jlta.com.au, they are an insurance brokerage. They will not insure any sports/racing bikes, but the bandit comes up as a kitten-hugging, family friendly tourer. My insurance with them states no one else is to ride it and it is not allowed on a track, even for instruction, otherwise the contract is null and void.

The MCC of NSW is having a meeting on Monday at the Ex Services club in Ryde at 7:30pm, vistors are welcom. The main topic of discussion is a strategy for fighting the increases in CTP costs.

Wow, that's pretty spooky. Talking about CTP green slips and got home yesterday to find a letter with my renewal from Allianz for $498. I went to the address below and found a price range from $391 to $638. Obviously not going with Allianz this year. It pays to shop around.

ctp insurance Empty forgot how spoilt i am in qld

Post  ohmyfj55 Mon 05 Jul 2010, 8:09 pm

Hi guys,

struggle with the figures for the ctp you have to pay in New south. After moving away seven years ago it all seems foreign.

Have the bandit comprehensively insured with QBE for $550.00 a year and just payed six months rego, with the suncorp CTP included, for $230.00.

All that and no annual inspections either.

Plenty of cheap units and houses this way if anyone wants any. Pity there isn't much work yet.

ctp insurance Empty Airlie Beach/Proserpine currently....

Post  ohmyfj55 Tue 06 Jul 2010, 5:03 pm

Hi there Potatomasher,

love the new avatar by the way.

Am currently in Proserpine, just 20klms west of Airlie Beach...population for the combined area around 10,000.

Depends on whether you want to retire completely or move to part-time work. The wet season, traditionally up here from Christmas to March, has a blanket effect and slows things down a bit.

Was a culture shock from Sydney (Chatswood to be specific), see you're in the Northern Beaches.

The water is beautiful to look at in Summer but three things can discourage venturing in, 26degree water temp, no waves and killer jellyfish the size of your pinky fingernail.

Feel free to pm if you want to know more on this part of aus.

Regards,
nathan
