Early Risers.

No, its not about handlebars. Just wondering who out there is silly like Jan and I and get up at ungodly hours to go to work. Poor Jan works over on the mainland and catches the 4:33am ferry. She gets up just after 3am to go through her morning ritual. I follow shortly after. Most of the time cause I need to go visit the "little room", and when I get up I can't be bothered going back to bed. I now work here on the island and start at around 6:30am. My decision. I could start later if I wanted. I have done my stint of mainland commuting over the years. Leaving home in the dark and getting home in the dark. Don't miss it. So that gives me heaps of time to do lots in the morning like check up on you guys n gals. Read the news. Pat the dog and so forth.

Good Morning Sir, You've probably realised by now Hammy that I like to listen to the sparrows break wind. Most days Im up at 5am sometimes 4 depending on if and where I have to travel too. If I happen to have a late start or day off ( like today, getting the TL rego'd Very Happy

) thats when I like to get on here to fill in a bit of time and catch up because my body clock alarm goes off at 5am. Ive never heard the euphemism " pat the dog ". I can just imagine you as a 15yo, " Paul, what are you doing in your bedroom?? " " Nothing Mum, Im just patting the dog, don't come in ". Laughing

My alarm goes off at 5.10 for me to leave for work at 5.55 but that only happens 7 days in 28. Another 7 shifts of night shifts (7pm - 7am) so don't need an alarm.
Out of the other 14 days I use an alarm for 6.30 to get my son up so he can get ready for school on school days. The few days I do get to sleep in I'm usually up by 7.30 anyway.

Its all a bit of a mess but you get use to it

Did my share of shift work MM. Once worked on a huge Dam site working 12 hour shifts. The company finally decided that they would get more production with three shifts and hire a few more workers. We were in a very strong union and the boys did not take too kindly to losing money. We ended up making the same money for lease work. Win Win.

I've been at the same place now for nearly 26 years. We started out doing 21 x 8 hours shifts 4 crews. In the mid nineties the company wanted to change to 12 hours shifts. We get the same money, with the same number of blokes and more days off.

I'm awake between 5 & 6 most mornings, a sleep in for me is a nice late 6:30ish.
That annoys the kids, because I've normally got Sunday bacon & eggs cooked by 8:00 Very Happy

I suppose it would depend on whether you had a great dane or a chihuahua as to make it worthwhile waking up early to give it a pat Laughing

I'm actually an early " riser " , but I find a quick trip to the loo fixes that , then it's back to bed for a while . Razz

Mornings would suit me just fine if they started around mid morning Sleep

Potatomasher should be posting up on this topic. Twice I've been on a overnighter with him and he gets up at 4 or 5am and quietly sneeks out and jumps on his bike in freezing temperatures and rides off home.

I must say I like a early morning ride too but Steve wins out on the sparrow farting witnessing.

I thought so, I could tell by your post. My Old Man worked there for 25yrs on the hot strip mill, and the last 10 years he's worked for Westernport Pipe contracting to Bluescope. My brother also worked there for 16 years until taking a redundancy 2 years ago. We've got a lot to talk about at Cowra. Smile
