Cam cover removal
Even with the pair covers removed its a pig of a thing to remove and install . The two steel position dowels in the cam cover catch the cam chain .
Or am I doing it the wrong way ???

Re: Cam cover removal
If the dowels were in the head there would be no problem .Also the cam guide in the top of the cover is glued in place .Probably the same glue as used in the starter motor .

Re: Cam cover removal
Try loosening the cam chain adjuster, then lift the cover, whilst lifted slip a long screw driver in and depress the cam chain in the middle. Then slide the cover out the left hand side so the dowel passes over the depressed cam chain. Reversal for instillation, just remember to tighten cam tensioner , works for me each time..............

Re: Cam cover removal
Just checked my valve clearances two days ago. Removed one of the pair covers, didn't really need to though. Had same troubles as you with the dowels. Tried to remove them to make the return trip easier but the little buggers really didn't want to move. Only
Managed to get it out by lots of wiggling, and lots if patience. Also pushed the cam chain down in the middle as much as I could so that the dowel would scrape over.
I took it out the left side. Not sure of the right would have been any different?

I did think about loosening the tensioner but being impatient I just pulled harder . I did press
down on the chain with a long screwdriver which helped .
Yep ,valve clearance check ,all ok .55.000 kls. I will not check again for 20,000 kls .but have a 10,000kl trip planed so not as long as it sounds .

If you're over our way you can set up your swag in our front yard - or use the spare bedroom.

Re: Cam cover removal
Great time of year to be touring and camping out. By February you will have missed the snow, rain, floods and bushfires with most of the school holiday makers having returened back to the mainland, so prices should have deflated to normal levels
Re: Cam cover removal
Whilst in Hillwood you might also consider "bunking" with the three puppies although that would require a fairly large bed
Probably worthwhile to watch the movie Turner and Hooch to get some ideas on how to associate with Barry's pets
I have a friend who has a sign at her front door
Today's Intruder
Tomorrow's Dog Shit
so I would make sure you ring the doorbell first.
