GIPro gear indicator Empty GIPro gear indicator

Post  Hammy Tue 01 Oct 2013, 9:42 am

Having fitted my new GiPro gear indicator ( No TRE model ) several weeks ago, I finally got the chance to take the bike for a bit of a spin on the mainland yesterday. All was going well until I noticed that when I pulled up at traffic lights and put the bike into neutral, the Gipro showed 0 ( good ), but my green neutral light did not come on. This happened several times. When I stopped the bike the green light worked as it should. Maybe a dirty contact somewhere ?  It does not really worry me as I can look at the GiPro to know that I am in neutral. Has anyone else struck this ?

It's a well known issue. Oil gets into the gear position switch. I cleaned mine repeatedly with success but have recently replaced it as the problems recurred with increasing frequency. Symptoms are no neutral light until the side stand goes down, and a lot of "0" from gears 4 to 6.  Without the GiPro you'd not notice.

Cleaning it is simple. Full details here:

I have replaced the switch on my GSF with a later model GSX one. They don't seem to have the same issues. I think the gear position issues may also impact on what map the ECU selects.

The GSF1250 part is 37730-18H01 but I ordered number 37730-18H02, which is the later switch for the GSX1250FA with the identical engine.  Works perfectly and I am hoping the different part number means Suzuki made it more reliable.   I have not seen any GSX owners reporting issues.  The switch looks much the same but the central axle is a slightly different construction so they are not identical.
