Help us protect your account
Can any computer guru help. When I log onto hotmail I get this message. If I hit NEXT without giving info it highlights the bottom box and will not move off this screen. This happened a week or so back and after many attempts to log on over this period it added a new message to the bottom "7 days to provide info" and then let me into my mail. Each day it counted down. When I ignored the last day message this message re-appeared.

Is this a scam to get access to my computer or is it  genuine Microsoft? If genuine why would they want this info?

Hopefully, someone can help.

cheers

george

just say the end result of my post - the bottom section is not what appears on my screen. I copied the original screen and pasted it here but it turned out scrambled.

my suggestion is piss Gmail or Hotmail off, use dedicated email software like outlook ( it comes with Microsoft office ) or thunderbird by mozilla

for MS windows then use your email address that  comes with your internet connection or speak to your provider to get one and use it

or as a apple user like myself i use their icloud.com email address and collect my mail using apple mail on my mac or iphone/ipad  this way i dont have any problems.

Also Google have no concept of security, they just want to make money from everybody and dont care how they get it so the you email address is fair game to advertiser or who ever will pay google for this info, the price you pay for free email service from a dodgy company

that is all

i hope this helps

Sounds like a scam to me.

Copy the message into Google and see what comes up. There are may sites out there that expose scams like these.

I have a @live.com.au account that I access through Thunderbird, I don't get any kind of message like that

Buy yourself a copy of SpyHunter, It's around $50 for one computer but well worth it.

Looks legitimate, they want you to set up some details so you can access your account if you ever get locked out.

As long as you check the address and ensure you really are on Microsoft site, and preferably it starts with https: as long as they don't ask for back account details it should be right.

I access all my mail accounts through Thunderbird and I wouldn't want to use the ISP's mail because it becomes difficult to change ISPs.

I don't use Outlook for private email, it's just too bulky and has features most never need.
