Instructors Licence Empty Instructors Licence

Post  Mpottsy Mon 26 Aug 2013, 10:34 pm

Well last week was a busy week. Three trips to the RMS, just to take my road Knowledge test 90 questions in total with only 6 questions allowed incorrect, followed by two days at H.A.R.T completing my Pre Learners Certificate, and the my M.O.S.T test with a zero point pass rate.

Now it's of to the local police station for an Interview and the back to the RMS to submit my application just to get a certificate of eligibility so that I can then take my Instructors Course.

Talk about jumping through hoops. At least it gave all the other pre provisional students something to talk about as they watched me take the M.O.S.T test on my GSX1250FA which was a first according to the head Instructor. Some of them even asked if it was legal to restrict such a big bike so you could ride it on a restricted licence. I sadly had to disappoint them by informing them why I was actually there. Talk about pressure 20 students and all the instructors all stopped to watch me go through the test.

And yes I did pass before anyone says anything :-)

interesting!  it makes sense though to have to get through those hoops.

i wonder how many of the learners would have believed that you've had to block off 3 of the 4 cylinders to make it suitable  lol!

Congratulations Mark.
I suspect that has cost a bit too with all those trips to the RMS and HART.
would like to see what's involved with a MOST.

Great that you passed, but I find it "interesting" that an experienced and fully licensed rider should have to take the MOST.

I presume you had to complete it without getting anything wrong? I guess it makes sense to have to know the stuff inside out before you preach it.

Fun to do on the 1250!

Yes i had to complete the test with Zero points. I had one small hiccup when i was passing between the final two cones in the cone weave when I accidentally hit the gear shift into neutral. Luckily I had enough momentum to get the bike upright and change gear and keep going.

yes it is there are 4 different components that you have to complete. When you are a real learner you are allowed a total of 8 points before they fail you.

Having done both courses now I find it totally amazing that the RMS believe that this is all you need to do to be able to ride a motorbike safely on the main roads of Australia.

The test you do in Vic is the same. For the learners its just about handling the bike, left & right turns, emergency stop and a slow ride.
For the license test its timed left & right turns, 2 emergency stops, a left swerve and a right swerve.
All on a closed bitumen area, so no real world road test.
Vic roads have been talking for years about changing it, as far as I know it still hasn't.

IN the ACT (and I presume NSW as I think they are now the same) as well as the monkey tricks you also go on a road ride with the instructor for a while, just to make sure you don't do anything obviously stupid / dangerous before they pass you Smile

when I did my license test all I had to do was pass the oral test and ride up the street (after checking over shoulder and indicating) do a couple of u-turns without putting the feet down, that was it.

Wow, well done on passing. Good luck with the rest of it too! It has changed heaps by the sounds of it since I did the "train the trainer course with Stay Upright..years ago (15). I think every rider/driver should go through a test of some sort regularly and a more thorough one than they currently use for learner/licence. As a postie, we have to do a ride test every two years to keep our job. Show that we don't have bad habits etc. and that we are competent and safe, know the rules etc. Still a simple one day event though, run by HART.

I have finally completed my Instructors License. After many trips to the RTA and a week spent with stay upright I am now fully qualified. All the paperwork has now been submitted to the RMS and i am just waiting for my actual card/license to arrive. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Thanks everyone I have started working already teaching total novices what a motorbike/Scooter is.

It is probably fate as I was made redundant last week HAHAHAHA well i know where some of the money is going. I have my shopping list ready

1. 3 bike trailer
2 2x Honda CB125e
3 1x scooter (spoken is a very quiet whisper)
4 Towbar

Now all i have to do is work out what to call myself/the business and get someone to design a website for me.

Watch this space........
