Re: went further than expected
spocket has been changed (still to do final tork on nut tho)
decided to take it all apart for cleaning, checking and re-greasing of the pivot points. Once the rear wheel is out, 3 bolts and it all drops out so why not..
Also doing some mods to the back plastic bits.
front is apart for PAIR blockoff plate fitment (done, took about 30 mins) and fork rebuild/upgrade and head stem bearing check/regrease

Re: went further than expected
couldn't get what i wanted for it (either i was dreaming or buyers are not willing to spend- closest i could get was $1500 below what i asked and i just wasn't prepared to go that low)
so i have decided to keep the bandit
when the time comes that i can't ride for a bit (hopefully i get a call soon as things are getting worse) i'll put it up on blocks till i can.
depending on $$$$ and how things go under the knife, it could even re-emerge as a somewhat different beast.

i'm hopeful mine will be successful also. it's one of those cases were it works or zero type deals but i do get a second chance if need be, but if the second chance goes pear shaped its all over red rover
back to the bandit, done nothing today as i was too lazy so the poor girl is still showing her bare arse.

Re: went further than expected
Get it back together as soon as possible! You need it sitting there begging to be ridden so that you can envisage every day what it will be like after a SUCCESSFUL operation! You might feel a bit in bits at the moment - until things are sorted out health-wise - but better days are ahead. Hang in there - your Bandit needs you!
P.S. Did it soak up much grease in the joints or were they pretty good when you got to them?

Re: went further than expected
Thanks for the kinds word and encouragement re the op I have coming up. Even tho the bandit is off the road, I'm still riding every day on the GSX650F
Now to the bandit
The swing arm and rear shock is back together and back on the bike - yay.
the bearings were dry as a nuns nasty and included an indication that a small amount of water had got in there at some time in the last 2 years. apart from that there was no signs of abnormal wear.
I found slight erosion pitting on the top of the swing arm where the chain buffer sits near the pivot point. not very deep but something i'm going to have to keep an eye on. I think it has been caused by the fact I live and ride on the beach (not actually on the beach but right next to it, literally)
I can tell you that the top shock bolt is a PITA to get in on a ABS bike. This is due to the ABS HU being in the way. Putting your tongue on the right side of your mouth certainly helps.
Some interesting trivia:
The cushion rods (dog bones) are stamped with 32F, as is the cushion lever (the bit the rods connect to at the bottom). On the GSX650F the rods and lever are stamped with 31F. I'm unsure of what this means but the rods are about 5mm different (1250 is longer) hole to hole and the lever has a different ratio as well.
While I was doing stuff I also found evidence of a brake fluid leak at the ABS HU from one of the pipes. All were tight so i cracked them all and re tightened them. After cleaning it all up, there is no indication of leaks yet but i'll have to wait until it's all together and running to check again.
