1250 24k service
Can anyone who has had or knows whats involved in a 24k service let me know whats involved , I have been quoted $750 for a 24k service on my 1250fa , seems a little steep to me , I know they check the valve clearance but what else ?

Re: 1250 24k service
Hi B/G. Your right, is probably a bit high, but mine was $724. Mine also got the brake and clutch fluid change, plus the Gus fuel pump clean as there seems to be a problem with the fuel pump \ filter. I have a very good dealer whom is thorough and I don't mind paying an extra few $ for what I know is good service, mind you, I'd draw the line at having that much done i'd need to paint his house...

Re: 1250 24k service
now that I fell really stupid that what i was looking for was in my owners manual the whole time , yeah I rang Springwood Suzuki the day after I bought the bike for a price just to get an idea and they quoted me $580 , thats where the bike has been serviced before I bought it but its 130km from here so I rang the local Suzy dealer here on the Sunny Coast and have been quoted $750 for the same service so I'm a bit shocked at the difference in price

Valves won't need doing. Just do the fluids yourself and pocket $500

I agree with Reddog. Looking at the manual there's bugger all. Change plugs, oil, oil filter, coolant, do a bolt check and your done.

Re: 1250 24k service
After my 24,000kms service I put up this post:
https://nswbandits.forumotion.net/t2229-new-pr3-s-24000km-service?highlight=service
$1005 with new new PR3's or $457 excluding the tyres - that included a check of the valve clearances but they did not need adjusting. But the throttle bodies were synched.
The price you've been quoted seems high.

I think I might buy the oil and filters in advance and hand them over with the keys that should soften the blow a little more , i thought about doing the service myself but travelling 400 k's a week to work plus whatever I put on it on my weekend rides I think I would prefer a dealer keep up the servicing just for my piece of mind

Re: 1250 24k service
Just paid $330 for the 42k service. Mind you, I am 3000 over the service interval and I need a new chain and sprocket. The guy was impressed that I squeezed 45k out of the chain.

Re: 1250 24k service
If you really want the valves checked and are not up to doing it yourself then send that into the shop to be done.
The user book plus the info that is out and around on the interweb will help you do at least the basic stuff like oil and filter, chain adjustment, nut/bolt tighten, coolant change, brake fluid change etc.
Some of the money you pay is for the oil they use (which IMO is way overpriced for what is needed) and for sundries like oil disposal, rags, clean up etc. These things you can get for free or at vastly reduced prices compared to what the dealer asks you to pay.
IMHO do it yourself I reckon and get to love your bike close up and personal.

Re: 1250 24k service
Pulling the bike down to do the valves is a pain. I did a few extra things when I had the tank off like ditching the PAIR system which tidies it up a bit. Plugs cost $2.50 - $3 each and don't take much to change. I'd be doing a TPS check and throttle sync whilst you have the tank unbolted as well.
If you really want to pay the dealer for a stamp then go for it. I modified my bike staright away and it hasn't missed a beat I couldn't give a shit about the warranty as the bike is pretty much unbreakable unless you throw it down the road.

Yeah I hear ya , I'm not totally hopeless with a spanner but I just dont have the confidence to muck around with these 4 stroke engines , I'm fairly certain that my handy work had a hand in the premature death of my old zzr250

Re: 1250 24k service
Ask if someone on here can show you. It is dead simple to perform an oil change. The TPS and throttle body sync is a little tricky, but I've done it myself without any issues. The best bit as others have stated is you learn about your bike. For me it's a little time to myself down in the shed.

BG, I'm due to change my oil and will be doing it this weekend, if you want to come down to the northside of Brisbane, happy to show you how easy it is. I even have a few tips and tricks to make it relatively mess free.

Re: 1250 24k service
From memory the 48k service on my 1200 was about that sort of money, but that included a 'rocker cover gasket' and chain/sprockets.
Oh, and the valves didn't need adjusting. The mechanic suggested not to worry about them until the 96000km service.

Re: 1250 24k service
Forget about the valve check, they won't need adjusting at 24k. Oil + filter, air filter, plugs and you are good to go.
And foil over the headers is a bit fussy, I usually just end up at the traffic lights the next day wondering why the hell smoke is coming off the headers haha.
Chain and sprokets may also need to be done around this time, varies widely though.

Re: 1250 24k service
no worries I'm overdue so will be doing it sooner rather than later, though I do change oil and filter every 5,000kms, so not really overdue as such except in my mind.Bandit Gazza wrote:ThatOtherGuy wrote:BG, I'm due to change my oil and will be doing it this weekend, if you want to come down to the northside of Brisbane, happy to show you how easy it is. Re: 1250 24k service
Aluminium foil hey Reddog.....hmmmm. Might give that a go. Ive just used a pizza box lid cut into 1/4's. Bend n shape and stuff it down between the headers to funnel the old oil into the container.

Yeah give it a go it works well, you can even set it to funnel the oil into the pan and still not get any on the headers

Re: 1250 24k service
For those that do their own oil changes, just out of curiosity do you measure what goes in and what comes out? I don't mean exactly just roughly. For instance going by the rough sight line on the oil containers I add close to the 3300ml as per the crank case and also check the sight level through the glass while on the centre stand. so after adding the requisite oil, give a quick run, let it settle, then top up to ensure its just right, its usually around that 3300ml added amount. then I empty the drip tray using 1 litre bottles and I usually get very close to 3300ml to dispose of. Anyone else check this and get similar results? BTW no mid services top ups either. I also get the same with GS500, never uses any oil between services, I check often and its always at the right level.

Re: 1250 24k service
I rang the local dealer here today for a price on an air filter to add to the oil and filter I have already got toward my upcoming 24k service and to ask about the K&N air filter , he quoted $77 for the K&N told me it was much better than the standard filter would last forever and that I would just need to put a recharge kit through it every 18k , ok fine so i said how much is the Suzuki genuine part air filter and he said over $100 , I said really ?? he said yup , so anyway a couple of hour later I rang brisbane motorcycles just to verify they quoted me $75 on the K&N and $40 on the Suzuki genuine part , so what gives ? why would the guy just bullshit me like that , I mean he is at a big Suzuki dealership here on the coast and has either just pulled a figure out of thin air or is pushing K&N filters , Its the same dealership that quoted me $750 for the service so I am wondering WTF
