Anyone else going to the Island ?
Heading off next wednesday for my first trip to the GP. Just a touch excited. Doing the NSW & Vic Alps, & lots of twisty bits of road over both states.
Bit of an eclectic mix of bikes - a BMW GS1200, Triumph Tiger 1050, Ducati Monster S4R, & myself on the GSX1250FA.
As an ex Ducati owner I reckon with the Duke in the group we're guaranteed regular stops for fuel, breakdowns, bits falling off, etc etc
Cheers,
PS - Are the Victorian Highway Patrol really as ruthless as I've been led to believe ?

Won't the Duc need an engine rebuild halfway to Vic.
I'm travelling down with the family and am towing the caravan so no riding for me. But looking forward to a great time.

Re: Anyone else going to the Island ?
Not going, I did my first time 2 yrs ago and it was one of the most memorable times I have ever had. It rained, froze, blew, muddy but I would not have changed a thing . . . and Stoner won.
I will be back and hopefully Stoner will be racing again for another win.
Hope your first time is even more memorable than mine was

Planning a quiet trip from Sunbury to the island for the first time for many years, will probably take the CBX out to show her what sunshine looks like...

I am leaving melbourne Wednesday morning and heading down to Bairnsdale for the Barry Sheene tribute ride which I do every year. Will be staying at the Island for the weekend. Fingers crossed we get some good weather this year. You just never know what you are going to get at Phillip Island.
Cheers Andy.

I'll be chaining the Bandit to the garage floor so that it doesn't decide to go without me while I'm at the wedding.

I might ride ahead of the BS ride like I have done before.
Too many knobs on that ride who cant ride without wandering or cant maintain a set pace.
Its the most dangerous riding I have ever done.
I cant stay for the racing though.

I was in Bega this arvo and there were plenty of bikes heading south, including 4 new looking Honda posties (). The riders each had a very large backpack and tents strapped on. That's riding to the Island for you!

Re: Anyone else going to the Island ?
Just back from the Island. What a trip.
High points - a week of freedom riding some fantastic roads - probably Great Alpine Road over Mt.Hotham & Bright/Tawonga Rd to Mt.Beauty two standouts. The speed, noise, smell, atmosphere etc of seeing the bikes live for the first time.
Low points - one of the blokes in our group coming off Thurs morning on the Alpine Way not far from Khancoban. Two broken femurs ( left a compound fracture) bike a complete write off. Waiting what seemed like an eternity for the ambo's ( about 40 minutes ) He's now stuck in Royal Melbourne Hospital for next couple of weeks till he's up to a transfer home to Central Coast.
Luckily broken legs can be fixed - could have easily been a lot worse.
Cheers,
