Introducing myself (and the Bandit)
Hi from the Mornington Peninsula Vic. I bought a 2005 Bandit 1200 SZ about twelve months ago. 22k's on the clock, Remus Grand Prix can and bar risers - otherwise stock. The old girl goes really well but has a vibration around 3k. Has anyone else experienced the same thing? The bike's great in every other regard for what I want. Any suggestions?

Introducing myself (and the Bandit)
Welcome to the forum lebandit / I can't remember exactly what revs my 1200 had a slight vibration , but most in line fours get one at a certain rev range . mine was never intrusive though .A mate with a series 1 had an annoying one & had his engine mounting bolts re-tensioned & that seemed to help with his for some reason .

G'day and welcome.
There is a million things that could cause vibes. I'd start with the chain tension and condition.
Others include carby balance, engine mounts, air box resonance etc etc

Re: Introducing myself (and the Bandit)
Thanks for the quick replies. The vibration is only within the 3 to 3.5 k range and smooth as silk elsewhere. I'll follow your advice. Thanks for the input.

Hey Paul, how did the old 1200 rate against the 1250?

Re: Introducing myself (and the Bandit)
They both have good & bad points .The 1200 was easier to work on & service e.g screw & lock-nut tappets ( although the 1200 majors were @ 12000 km & the 1250 is @ 24000km ) but the 1250 is easier to live with with regards to the fuel injection / stiffer frame etc . My missus liked the seating better on the 1200 . The new motor makes max torque a lot earlier than the 1200 which makes it better to overtake etc as you seem to be at that stage in the revs whenever you need it although revving out the 1200 to reach peak torque was a lot of fun . 6 gears are also handy & my 1250 is better on fuel than the 1200.

Welcome to the Forum.
I used to notice a buzz on my Mark I Bandit at 80kph, which equates to 3000rpm in 5th approx. Now, I don't notice any more, I guess I'm just used to it. As others have said, check the normal tune-up items and make sure the engine mount bolts are all tight, but some vibration is to be expected from a big 4 cylinder donk.
From what you've said I'd say it's just normal.
Carbie balance will help with a hesitation just off idle.

Welcome to the forum mate.
Have you considered it might need a wheel balance?

Re: Introducing myself (and the Bandit)
Thanks again guys.
I think the wheels are balanced OK and the vibe is probably just a trait of the bike. I agree, winding this thing on is a rush. Will keep an eye on the events but can't make the Healesville trip on 18/8.

Welcome along.
I know the owner of a bike shop here in Coffs, & he warned me of a buzzy sensation in the Bandits, my 06 has the buzz just above 100 km/h, (not that we law abiding Bandit riders ever venture into that region )

I'm embarrassed to admit that I sometime venture into that zone ...

Re: Introducing myself (and the Bandit)
how are ya mate,
the buzzing is generally from the fairing through harmonics.
I`ve basically stopped mine by pulling the fairing off,and painfully cutting fine strips of thin foam tape or rubber, and super glueing them to all main contact points that cause vibration, and it does stop the buzz.
you can`t make the rubber to thick or the fairing won`t mate properly
