Rear Gaurd Laws ?
Don't mean to drag up old topics, but, it occured to me that one new model bike seems to flaunt the " Rear gaurd law " smack bang in the face. God it's sexy though.

That Duc actually breaks the laws of attraction
Pretty it aint in that colour.

Re: Rear Gaurd Laws ?
Fairly sure the law just requires that some part of the guard extends beyond the rear tyre. Which is why it's absolutely ridiculous and outdated.
That thing is an abomination.

QLD regulations state that the end of the mudgaurd must be no less than vertically inline with the rear most edge of the tyre. Go figure.
And I still think it is a thing of Beauty.

ADR 42/04
Wheel Guards for L-Group Vehicles
Wheel guards may consist of either permanent body structure or part structure and other components, including mudflaps, provided the specified protection is retained during vehicle operation.
General Requirements
The wheels of a vehicle and the wheel of a side-car must be fitted with wheel guards of width not less than the ‘Section Width’ of the tyre. The wheel guards must be so designed as to protect other road users, as far as practicable, against thrown-up stones, mud, ice, snow and water and to reduce for those users the dangers due to contact with the moving wheels.
Special Requirements
Rear ‘Axle’ and Side-car
The wheel guard provided for the rear wheel and for the wheel of any side-car must extend not less than from a point vertically above the foremost part of the wheel rearward to a point not higher than the intersection of the arc of the wheel guard with a line through the centre of the wheel at 45 degrees to a horizontal plane through the centre of the wheel when a mass of 45 kg is distributed in the saddle of the vehicle at its ‘Unladen Mass’.
So not sure how they did it but nice looking bike and glad they did

A couple of Beemers have a very similar installation.

G'day All,
Hope everyone is going the goods.
I would reckon by reading into the ADR requirements, that the number plate is as wide as the section width of the tyre, and it is also in line with the rear of the tyre on a vertical plane. The fact that it really does bugger-all is another matter.
Just my two-bobs worth anyways.

It's strange, if you go to the Ducati web site. some of the Diavels have just a bracket and some of the photos have more of a mini-guard à la BMW.

That guard that you can see attached to the rego plate holder is an optional extra.

Well that explains why it was in some photos and not others. Thanks.

Agreed. So much bulk in the front and then nothing at the rear. Motorcycling equivalent of Dolly Parton.
I guess if you like women with massive knockers and no butt and skinny legs this might be attractive to you.

Re: Rear Gaurd Laws ?
The gaurd must cover the centre of the tread down to 45 degrees from the axle
SA police are pretty hot on that and having a red rear reflector, plenty of bikes have been sent for full roadworthy checks for either.

Sorry Chook, but I prefer the sound of a vtwin over an il4 any day of the week, they have an awsome off beat sort of a rumble. I used to own a sv 650, would've liked a bigger vtwin, but there are times when you need to listen to the handbrake about price etc

That wasn't me that said that, I actually like the sound of both, a V twin thumping is awesome, as is a IL4 screaming it's tits off!

oops, sorry Chook, must've still been half asleep.
