ADSL2 Speeds
Thinking of upgrading to ADSL2 but can't seem to find anyone talking about speeds. Just a range.
I'm more interested in upload speeds and there is no info on that.
Can anyone offer some advice on what speeds you're transferring data?
BTW I'm about 3km from a digital exchange.

Re: ADSL2 Speeds
Hi Chris
ADSL2 Speeds are 20 megabits per second down load and 1 megabit per second up load but this depends on your distance from the exchange. i live about 3 kilometres of cable from the exchange so i actually only get 11/1

Ok I think I get it.
So there is only 1 ADSL2 speed? What you get depends on distance? I was meaning 3km cable distance too.
Thanks Jim.
In this instance I will allow you to wear the Tech hat

That's about 20 if you live next door to the exchange and the wind is blowing in the right direction the sun is rising and all the planets are in line.
As it is I get 8.5 on a good day with bigpond

Re: ADSL2 Speeds
I also get 11/1 on my ADSL2.
You could look here http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/ Chris, you can fine tune the search to find all plans that meet you specifications.

Bogswamp does the lot as a package. Austar & Tbox and heaps of unmeterd content. Why Chips?chips wrote:don't touch bogswamp, you will regret it.

Currently with people telecom (swift) ant they have been fantastic over last 8yrs. Just think there is better value around now. Last time I mentioned moving they upgraded my package for no charge but they are prepared to loose me now apparently.

just wouldn't touch telstra internet. Their service is crap. The connection speeds reliability are ok but if you need help with anything they are useless....

Re: ADSL2 Speeds
Heres a good one. Some time ago I rang Telstra internet tech support because my internet speed was really slow. Finally spoke to a woman after going through all the pre recorded BS. The woman asked for my post code. She did some checks and then told me that there was NO issues with the Telstra network in the Mackay area. What the ? I told her I was a thousnd klms from Mackay. I asked her where she was. Her reply. Asia ! I gave her a few nice Aussie slang words to ponder over and then just hung up. What are we turning into ?

Re: ADSL2 Speeds
iinet only has one international call centre and it is in South Africa.
Most of their support staff are in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.
The only reason they have the south africa call centre is for the few hours when perth staff are at home before the east coast staff come online.
Their service in my experience are second to none and their is no BS at all from them.... Prices are comparable if not cheaper than telstra and optus and their service is second to none.

Re: ADSL2 Speeds
I swapped from Bigpond to TPG. Went from 12 GB per month to unlimited access and $30 per month cheaper. Try this link to find an exchange near you
http://www.tpg.com.au/maps/
Have contracts wiht Bigpond at work for mobile. data & land lines but our bill is about $18k per month so we get good rates and service.

Unfortunately no coverage in our parts. Thanks for the pointer anyway.

I did the opposite, TPG speeds became unreliable sometimes as slow as dialup. Sometimes I couldn't connect and on ringing them their phone manner was atrocious. On the weekends I sure they use a Indian call centre.
Then at Bigpond they dropped my plan down to ADSL without notice. They couldn't tell me why just put me on hold. I ended up changing it back myself as a plan upgrade at no extra cost.
I think I doesn't matter who your with, they're all as bad as each other.

Optus Fast cable have some respectable speeds if you want to go Cable/Voip path. (if available in your area). Check out the download speed.
