Bad Designs
They really get me cranky , just plain lazy designs . LIKE
Bandit 1250 flashing fuel light with still 120 kl till you run out .
No idle adjustment ,same bike .
Bikes with idle adjustment knob you can not reach or find .
Bmw blinker system , throttle pull grip ( its a joke ) Everything bmw in fact .
But today I found a new one . My 1997 xtz660 Tenere Yam has 4 litres of fuel you can not use . It has a link pipe from one side to the other but so high up you run out of fuel with 4 ltrs still in the rhs
Like a rear shock that the c- spanner doesn't fit without breaking your arm .
Or size xxxxl pants which are really xl .
Helmets that think I have a square head .
Oil filler holes that are 10mm wide .
Parking lights , when did you last use that .
Clutch ,key ,sidestand ,kill switch , start button arrangement . Its not a Jumbo Jet .
Wheel spaces the refuse to stay in place while re-fitting wheels .
Under bucket shims .
Rocker covers that will not come out .Gaskets in top of said rocker cover that fall out trying to replace it .
Anyone got more ? ive only just started . lol

Re: Bad Designs
Ive just spent 3 days trying to work out the poor running of the Tenere . Right down to removing the head . I had drained the tank through the fuel tap till it ran dry to get rid of shitty stale fuel . Unbeknown to me there was 4 litres still in the rhside . Adding fresh fuel just splashed that over to the rhside which continued the poor running .. 3 DAYS YAMAHA .

Re: Bad Designs
BMW K100
I helped a mate do some serious electrical restoration work on one of these.
The electrical system has enough wiring and relays to build two bikes.
We fitted an aftermarket instrument cluster which involved adding a multi relay module to bring on the neutral light. The gear selector switch which is located at the back of the gearbox also required rebuilding with JB weld. A replacement part was worth around $300
The fuel sensor in the tank is also $200-$300
Replacing any relays is also very risky. They are a different pinout to "standard" and replacing the fuel relay results in destroying the control module under the front of the fuel tank. Another $300
The worst part is that there is no slack in the wiring so pulling on a wire to determine where it is heading is near impossible.
This bike should score #1 on the worst bike ever manufactured

Those almost impossible to remove ( even with long nose bent pliers ) rubber caps you have to take off to balance the 1200 bandit carbies .

Re: Bad Designs
Harley Davidson dry sump system. You need to perform a transfusion style oil change to get all of the old oil out.

Re: Bad Designs
Bmw r1150gs oil cooled design. Where you will get differing oil levels in the sight glass depending on whether or not the thermostat has opened.

Re: Bad Designs
That secondary fuel strainer hidden in the guts of the fuel pump housing on the B1250 is a fucking TERRIBLE design! Imagine how many owners have gone through tons of drama trying to fix it and eventually ponied up $700+ for a while new OEM assembly, When if it was just easily and obviously accessible/serviceable they wouldn’t need to. First and only problem I’ve had with my bike so far and I’m glad my Google skills let me to the fix on this forum or I’d be cursing the hell out of it.
