Just throwing it out there .....................
When Baz and I were on the boat heading back from Tassie I mentioned it wont be my last trip to the Apple Isle and I'd like to try and do it about a month earlier next time.
While we saw a lot, rode a lot of great rides etc, there was still a hell of a lot we didn't see or do.
I'd like to see a bit more of the NW corner, probably one night up near the coast as well as another night back in Waratah
To have a look at Cradle Mountain you need to allow the best part of a day, we both thought we'd like to take a bus in for a proper look
We didn't do Strathgordon and the Gordon Dam, that's a good full day (probably 1/2 day in, 1/2 day out)
We didn't do much South of Hobart other than a pretty rushed day trip down to visit Gus, I'd like to see more down there
We didn't go near Great Lake, there has been a lot more bitumen finished up there since we left making it more attractive on a Bandit.
Baz and I both regretted not spending at least one night near Port Arthur and doing the whole tour/visit thing
We missed a lot of the NE while it pissed down.
There are also a lot of roads and towns I'd like to revisit
I tossed up the idea of November 2020, Baz said he'd be keen to go back again (that was 6 months ago, haven't spoken to him about it since), IIRC madmax said he would consider it as well.
Anyone else interested in a trip most likely starting in the 1st or 2nd week of November and spending at least a full 2 weeks on the Island
If others wanted to do it shorter, those that want to go the full distance can sort out an itinerary and others can catch up en route.
Any (possible) takers?

there's been a few new members since this was posted plus want to keep it in the back of anyone's mind who'd consider the trip, still well over a year

I traditionally have 3 or 4 weeks off from mid October. If it’s in that period I’m keen.
Thinking about going this year after MotoGP but probably can’t afford it (shit tax return’
I’d love to do Tas with someone.

Was thinking November (definitely earlier than last year) but could possibly do mid-late October.2wheelsagain wrote:I traditionally have 3 or 4 weeks off from mid October. If it’s in that period I’m keen.

My manager did it late September - early October last year and spent quite a few days riding though patches of snow

Where would your 3 or 4 weeks see you returning to work? Mid November? (4 weeks), end of 1st week in November? (3 weeks)2wheelsagain wrote:I traditionally have 3 or 4 weeks off from mid October. If it’s in that period I’m keen.

If we could plan it around mid-late October to early mid November I don't see why we couldn't make it work
@ madmax, still 14 months to save up enough leave
Re: Just throwing it out there .....................

Re: Just throwing it out there .....................
Having lived in Qld tropics for over 15 years where the daytime temperature is 36C and it drops to 30C overnight.
Did I mention the humidity. No less than 99.99%
Lying in bed on a summer evening with the ceiling fan pounding away and a mosquito net over the bed which blocks out most of the breeze from the ceiling fan is not my idea of comfort.
And don't forget the mould that grows on everything
I'm really looking forward to a little rain, sleet and snow.
As for riding in high temperatures where the heat from the black bitumen almost gives you burn blisters, forget it.
I've come across some roads around Australia made from concrete and they are noticeably cooler.

The past few weeks has shown it wouldn't matter whether you went to Tassie in October or November, the weather has had everything from cold & wet to quite warm, hot even on and off over the past 6-7 weeks.
I know 2WA is only a chance if the trip has a mid October start (ruling him out of the 2nd/3rd options).
- Is there anyone with any interest that could/would not go if we left the mainland mid October?
- Is there anyone with any interest that could/would not go if we left early November?

Just canned our Tassie 4-5 week car trip that should have started 20-3. Fingers crossed for Oct or Nov or February 2021. Time will tell.

Tempting, but something tells me that "we" are not ready for that yet. Maybe one trip by bike & one by car ?

Re: Just throwing it out there .....................
I've booked holidays for all of November/1st week of December, last I was speaking with Davo he was looking into that too
Just need some sort of indication that travel between SA/Vic/Tas will be opened.
If that doesn't go ahead I'm keeping the leave, doing a height increase/storage increase on my shed and will aim to use some more leave I'm in trouble for hoarding to have another crack in March/April

Re: Just throwing it out there .....................
November is never going to happen, Davo1963 and I conceded that as soon as Victoria went into lock down again
(I hope they pull through this quicker than expected, not so much for our trip but for them, I feel for those that haven't got the same freedom we have)
I'm doubtful that March will happen either but I really hope I'm wrong, I think ATM our best hope is November 2021
Davo and I are planning on a few nights in the Flinders Rangers in November, dates to be confirmed, if anyone is interested keep an eye out in the SA ride pages
