Has anyone out there done a cam chain replacement? I don't seem to be able to find a cam chain on Ebay or anywhere. Is it a HyVo chain or just an ordinary chain? I don't want to go OEM coz they'll give me an endless chain. I'm not pulling the motor down just to replace a cam chain.

Never heard of a chain replacement being done myself, Kaupy.
I'm the only person I've heard of who's had to do shim swaps.

If my memory serves me correctly ( Rolling Eyes )  it is a HyVo chain.

I haven't done one either , but that certainly looks like  HyVo chain in their workshop manual
How many KM have you done out of curiosity ? (Thinking out loud........ could it be tensioner issues ?)

Yep I did one with a link . No problem really , its just the thought of getting it wrong you have to over come .

From memory I cut the old chain ,fed the new one into it and wound the motor over till it appeared on the other side .
Pics of how it looks BEFORE you cut the chain are a MUST(timing marks). As are rags covering all the motor just in case you drop anything .Two people are probably better than one to keep chain taught but I did it alone because I didn't trust any of my friends . Laughing

Yeah doing the job myself is not a problem. I've done heaps of them before. But what I'm finding hard is buying a Cam chain. @ Paul 60,000ks. Most HyVo's are done at 80,000 but I'm hearing a bit of noise so I thought I'd do it anyway. Now back to original question. Where do I buy one?

How about this one

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Suzuki-GSF-1250-S-K9-Bandit-Half-Faired-L-C-EFI-GW72A-2009-Cam-Chain-/140738977980?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item20c4b260bc

In the item description they say these chains are continuous but they can supply a joining link if required.

I recently did 3 cam chain replacements , 2 with links ,one without  (endless ). There is a method of fitting the endless old type chain (2 pins ) without a motor pull down .
On ONE of the pins (one, NOT two, like a drive chain ) carefully grind it back near level to the plate .(on work bench )
Pull the plate over the grounded pin ( flat screwdriver works well ) Be gentle , you want it to just slide over the pin . Rotate the plate 90 degrees and chain will come apart .Connect to old cut chain and wind through motor . To re-connect ,slide plate over pin and press home .  The other pin keeps it in place. The chain is being pulled so no side stress . Sounds dodgy but its a good method .
I have not done a hi-vo chain this way but imagine you could . A link is easier (just) but because the links are so small, your never sure you have got the plate on properly .
I just did 2 Bandit 600's both with about 70,000 ks on them . Both felt way better riding due to timing being back to where it should be . Chains were $120  each . One bandit had running problems . IT backfired and jumped two notches on the cam hence a new chain . Still ran but not as it should .  affraid
Read manual as cam tensioner must be remove which is easier if carbs removed . Rolling Eyes
