Nitron Rear shock absorber
well, considering I dont get much time away from work, I decided to finish the suspension and order a rear shock.
Ohlins and Wilbers were around $1500 for a similar shock.
I did a bit of research and Nitron (UK based) make similar shocks for a bit less.
http://www.nitron.co.uk/products/bike/track
I ended up getting a 2 way track shock delivered for less than 600GBP delivered.
That is now closer to $1000 but was around $850 when I ordered.
Like Wilbers, they customer build to your specs.
It has preload, compression and rebound damping + length adjustment.
I could have spent a 50GBP extra and gotten the 3way but am not smart enough to set them up.
Hope to setup this weekend and take it for a spin.
Photo's and review later.

Re: Nitron Rear shock absorber
Fitted rear shock today.
not as easy as the manual said due to oil reservoir or some other reservoir in the road.
anyways, a straight swap.
I was surprised at the ride. almost feels like air ride suspension. very smooth but also well connected.
No setup required as they ask for your riding weight etc.
This combined with front end work has really made a big difference to handling.
money well spent
Here's a pic on the floor

Re: Nitron Rear shock absorber
Sorry reardo for the pic. i tired a few times and im too dumb.
You can order a black spring (Which I asked for and didnt get), baby blue is their trade colour.
No ABS Kewwig - prefer non-abs (had full linked breakes and abs on bmw - so not again.)
I am going to throw it around today to see how it goes under different conditions.
I havent had an ohlins or a wilbers ride, so I cannot compare it to them but compared to stock, I reckon it is very nice.
cheers

Re: Nitron Rear shock absorber
that's a good score mate.
I have one of the aforementioned products which am very happy with, but if there`s an equal product out there that's a lot cheaper, that's a good thing!!
just curious, I can`t seem to get the page you put up, so is it the same one red dog put up? just wanted to know if it has a remote preload on the shock?
when I got my wilbers, I got that option as well, which did put the price at $1450, but with out that particular option it was just over a $1000!

I just can not work out why these things are so expensive . Its a shock not part of the space
shuttle . I would think a camera is way more complicated yet a point and shoot one
is cheap .

Mayb the word "Shock " refers to the feeling you get when you hear the price.gus wrote:I just can not work out why these things are so expensive . Its a shock not part of the space

Re: Nitron Rear shock absorber
Yep - Reddog got my pic online.
Remote compression damping unit.
They also have options for remote preload and slow speed compression damping, each adds cost.
I agree totally they are expensive. After riding one, IMO they are good value if you want added safety and handling.
Here's my take on it.
you only have one and they dont sell millions.
it gets a right pizzling (particularly with my weight on it)
the power to weight ratio and amount of rubber on the road means it has to be very good.
captured market.
if it fails, you are dead
so....
From what I could see, the nitron, wilbers and ohlins are all readily serviceable and they are assembled to suit your needs.
They are also designed to cope with racing so, the components should be of better quality.
Having the front end done didnt really make the bike feel or handle that much better,
adding a good rear has meant the whole suspension system is now performing and it is much better.
Did I need to do the front? No idea but I am happy with how it all works now.

Re: Nitron Rear shock absorber
I did ask the question, cause the one in picture, from what I see, doesn`t have a remote preload, only remote compression control, as it also has a C spanner supplied!
its just if that were the case, that's about the same price as wilbers.
Any way, doesn`t matter, there all good things, and I don`t regret for one second , about spending the money on it.
The difference is chalk and cheese, and I don`t like a wallowing bike!!

Re: Nitron Rear shock absorber
sorry mt beerwah.
mine only has remote compression unit.
Rebound is on the bottom of the shock.
it did come with the c-spanner. it is a bit bigger than the stock spanner, it just fits in the tool bag.
a better look at the shock is here

the preload bit is at the bottom as an option.
This is the race one. a few more options that they reckoned I didnt need.
