Hi all, I found this website through someones post on a GSX650F forum. Pleased to see an Australian site welcoming GSX650F owners. I'm in South Oz and just purchased an '09 GSX650F (LAMS) new off the showroom floor. As you can see i'm a new rider by the fact i've purchased a LAMS bike. Have been looking through the posts and great to see a wealth of knowledge and experiences being shared.

Hi all from SA Empty Hi

Post  aussiejay Tue 14 Dec 2010, 9:14 pm

Thanks for the welcome :-) yeah finding my way around the site great, heaps of very good topics. Great to see everyone's views are respected unlike many other forum types where people just seem to abuse each other. Lol i'm guessing i'll develop my own bad habits as I go, probably don't need to much encouragement hehe Very Happy

Welcome mate. They're a nice bike. A little underpowerd in LAMS spec I'd imagine but should serve you well.

Thanks guys, prior to this bike the biggest thing i'd been on was a Yammie 225 so I wouldn't know any different, and i'm getting a bit old to be going at warp speed Very Happy But this'll definately have what I need to cut my teeth on. Of course that'll change in a couple of years :-)

Hi there. Can those LAMS bikes be derestricted(?) once your time is up, or is there more to it than that?
Oh and welcome along

Yes they can - but
whitey1 wrote:or is there more to it than that?
Yes there is. Lots of legal mumbo jumbo unless Suzuki and the RTA have pulled the trigger to make life a whole lot easier for lams bike owners

Welcome aboard - and of course there's that unwritten rule that if you ever visit another State you'll bring a bottle of Coonawarra Red for each member in that State! bounce

It can be, essentially it is just a case of changing the ECU and throttle body, and of course the obligatory host of paperwork and it would require the bike to be deregistered as a LAMS and registered as unrestricted. Whole lot easier and cheaper to just trade it on a non LAMS model (The GSX650F non LAMS is the same price so i'm told as the LAMS). They've made it this way to "maintain the integrity" of the LAMS scheme, and deter noobs like me from messing with it and getting on a bike which will ultimately cause me a mischieve lol, which I think is a good thing. Plenty enough power for what I need at the moment. Some of the other 650's i'm lead to believe are easier to do, but Suzuki is taking the lead on the scheme and really supporting it in any way they can.

Ewok, just one bottle from one region! lmao if that's all the entry price is sheesh piece of cake Very Happy
