Tyres: Feedback
First topic message reminder :
Can anyone with feedback about the different tyres they've run on their bikes post some info here. I dragged 6000km out of the originals but should've chucked them at 5000km. They seem to go good then all of the sudden start falling apart...
I put on a set of Michelin pilot road 2's (front and back) and they seem pretty good. Unfortunately I already got a puncture after only about 1000km and had to get it repaired. It was a big hole (part of a hacksaw blade went through the rear) and the repair job is good but it losses a few PSI each week.

Bridgestone BT 023 GT tyres
Thanks to all you other Bandit boys for your welcome to the forum.
I managed to get 8500 klms out of the original Dunlops and replaced them with Pilot Road 2's which had great grip and good wear - 24,000 rear & 16,000 front.
Have just put on a set of BT023 GT's and whilst only covered 3500 klms they are great in both dry & wet.
The GT spec. tyre is designed for heavy touring bikes and have performed OK so far - only time will tell!

I must be doing something wrong by a long way I was happy with 16,000 front and rear

I find that these things have so much low down torque that you can be in a much higher gear than your average sportsbike and use that to punch out of the corner and hopefully saving rubber in the meantime!

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Original front Dunlop replaced yesterday - still a bit of meat on it at 9150kms, but not a smart move to push for a little extra out of the tyre in the wet winter we've been having.
Pilot Road 3 went on at $219 including fitting and a right-angle valve stem. GC Motorcycles at Prospect in South Oz did the job and I was in and out of the place in about 15 minutes. Even allowing for the waxy state of a new tyre the steering feels sharper and it tips in a little easier. I'll bed it in over the next few days and then report after our club ride (Classic Owners MCC) through the Adelaide Hills this Sunday.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
Having just completed a 2500 km round trip to Melbourne from Sydney in nearly every weather condition I can say with confidence that the PR3's are fan bloody tastic...I never once felt like I was losing grip in the front or the rear. The bike was fully loaded with all the camping gear and clothes for the week long trip for both me and the misses.
The PR3's in my book are an awesome tyre.

Tyres Review
Michelin Pilot 2's. Brilliant once you run them in but bloody scary in the wet if you haven't. Recommended to me by a guy at work. He still has his on at 11,000 an says he should get to 12,000

Re: Tyres: Feedback
I have a Pirelli Angel ST on the Front and a PR3 on the Back of my Bandit, they sticks like glue in the wet and dry, good on normal roads going into Parramatta and rougher roads out near Galston. I only got the Pirelli Angel as they didn't have a PR3 front Tyre in the other day. But I have to admit it "feels" great on the front, depending on wear I may be tempted to go Front and Back Pirelli Angels when the time comes over the PR3's

Just replaced the rear Metzeler Z6 with a Z8. Got about 15-16 000 k out of the Z6.

Really happy with the PR3's, have done about 1500k's on them now and find they instill confidence. No wet roads yet though. Have spoken to a mate who has them on a 1300 (or thereabouts) BMW tourer - he reckons they're great too. The guy I bought thenm off was concerned that the cross cut grooves in the front tyre might cause noise but I haven't noticed that. (Maybe the sound of the exhaust and wind over rides that?!)

Re: Tyres: Feedback
The funny thing with tyres is we always compare the new ones to the old rooted ones and say they’re heaps better
As happy as I am with the PR2’s, except for the accelerated wear towards the end, I guess I won’t be able to get them when it’s time to change again. At least by then the PR3 runners would have had a good chance to offer real world feedback. Might even be time for a new bike by then

Re: Tyres: Feedback
After reading this forum, finally replaced the original tyres. Managed to get 8000k's out of them. Put a road pilot 2 on the back and after a long discussion with the guy in the shop about my riding style (or lack thereof) put a michelin power pure on the front. After bedding in the front feels incredibly grippy and chuckable. Maybe the pr2 would have felt the same but I am happy with the results. I wonder who holds the record for the most k's out of the originals.

Michi's have really smartened their act up ( for bikes ), over the past decade and are right up there. I first tried them on my Blackbird after being a Pirelli user for many many years.

You would be right up there Man you must be gentle.
The front PR2 is a softer compound anyway so you probably didnt have to mix them.
The Bandit feels good with new rubber doesnt it?

Exactly what happened to mine Gus.
Wouldnt turn right in the end unless I gave it a big shove. Left was fine. I should have sold it on the US eBay site because the left still had 6,000k in it

Way better. I suppose its the low quality originals give the feeling of a hard compound without the benefit of long wear.

What were OEM on yours? I had Dunlop 218 and I thought they were pretty good for grip. Just shit wear.mustang sally wrote:2wheelsagain wrote:mustang sally wrote: I wonder who holds the record for the most k's out of the originals.

Popular opinion in the US was the OEM tires were not the same standard as replacements of the same model/type. Not sure if that's true.

Re: Tyres: Feedback
I had the dunlops as well. In comparison to others I thought the grip was ok but horrendous wear. And i was very gentle for the first 4000ks. That sort of wear you'd expect from grippy performance tyres. Time will tell what the new setup will do.

Still got the original Dunlop Sportmax on the front at 8000k but it's starting to slide in the corners. Michi pr2 when the tax check comes back

Only got a few over 5,000k's on the original Dunlops - wouldn't bother with them again..
